No Heat!

Turned the heat on today in my C350 and nothing. No hot air, no cold air, no fan blowing just nothing. Lights were lit up on dash like normal but nothing out of any vents.

Happen to be going to the dealership to drop off my buddy who was getting snow tires on his W203 and had them take a look at my lack of heat (31 here today).

They could not figure it out on the spot so now I have an appoitment next week. Keep you in the loop on problem, cause and fix.

No Heat in freezing weather? I would have asked for a servce loaner and left it with them. That is nonsense to drive without heat in a new car. Mercedes pays for the loaner when covered by the warranty.

Didn't someone already post about this one? Something about water getting up through the system and freezing, causing the fan to seize up.

Yup, already posted here. Seems to be a known problem as well. People don't clear the snow off around the vents before they start the car, so the snow melts, goes into the vents and gets trapped against the fan screen. It then refreezes and makes an air tight seal, causing the fan to over heat and essentially burn up. Was mentioned that there is a replacement part for this problem, but no one has updated us as to what the part does or if its a service bulletin yet.

I imagine, regardless of it re-freezing, that all cars are going to need a fix for this. If snow melting can get in, can't just regular rain water? Or if it's not enough to freeze up the fan, it's going to sit and get stinky without being able to drain.

I'm not an expert on this, but I'm going by what I've read so far. Normal rain water would easily pass through the fan screen and fall out the holes already there. The problem arises when actual snow/ice gets sucked onto the screen and isn't able to pass allowing it to freeze on the screen. I think it has more to do with the quantity of the water being sucked in, if its freezing rain I don't think a whole heck of a lot gets sucked into the vent, but seeing how its snow already compacted onto the vents, the warm air melts it and it gets sucked in easily.

How many (millions of) miles did they say they tested the new C?

And this never happened to them in the frozen tundras of whatever exotic place they were at?

That makes much more sense.
