Most respectable dealers will work with you a bit, especially if they think you'll be back.
When I picked mine up in October I asked for 2K off MSRP the day before it arrived. Dealer said "You know I could sell it to someone on the floor right now for 1-2K over MSRP". I said yes, but I could have bought another car 3 months ago instead of waiting with him for the gauranteed sale. He gave me $2K off without another word.
Of course, I'd been in to see him several times and told him that this is just a transitional car and that I would be looking at the new E or the C63 in a couple of years and that my wife would be in the market for a ML, GL or GLK as well in a year or so.
