Finally...

I just got my c300 4matic and I have to say, I love it more than I ever expected. Gonna take me a while to get through the manual though...

The MM is AWESOME, although I wasn't too impressed with the sound.

Somethings that I noticed though:
The car seems more sensitive to bumpy roads. What I mean is that although the car absorbs the bumpbs well and is very smooth, it feels like it picks up on more bumps than the previous one I drove (infiniti i30).

Also, does everyone use the parking brake everytime? I never used it in my previous car but the manual says to ALWAYS use it.

congrats on the car! post some pictures when you get a chance. i use the parking break all the time becuase i heard it saves the transmission on slopes and stuff. ive also heard that it keeps the breaks nice and tight (not sure if this one is true).

CONGRATS! i30 is more like a airplane ride, P/B always use it is hard to get used to it but a good practice.

Congratulations on the new car... pictures soon?

Both of my manuals are sitting in the glove box, I only refer to them when I need to make an argument here. Most of the time, I can just STFF to find the answer.

As for the P/B, I have used it all my life. It may take some practice if you are not used to using it. However, it's better for the transmission and makes sure that it is not stuck when you really need it. There have been discussions on the forum about the merits of this. STFF.

Enjoy your new car.

Congrats on the car!

I have to ask, what didn't you like about the sound with the MM system?

Maybe post some pics when you get a chance.

Parking Brakes

I never use my parking brakes for all the automatic transmission cars I have driven so far. HOWEVER, I was talking with my MB mechanic friend just last week. I was told that whenever you put your car in PARK, your gear is locked with the transmission. This would cause premature wear of the gear (and I hope that I am using the right terminology) especially when you are parking on an incline. He said that when we park, we should first leave our right foot on the brake, then engage the foot brake with our left foot, and then shift gear to PARK from DRIVE. It would not help if we shift to PARK before engaging the foot brake.

yes that is true. parking brakes are self adjusting. but they won't adjust themselves if they are not being used. always use parking brakes. i generally don't let go of brake pedal until my parking brakes are fully set or released to protect my transmission.

That's the way I do it as well... it is the first time I have heard a mechanic recommend engaging the parking brake BEFORE shifting into park though. I'd expect some stress on the p/b if you did that.

Anyway, enough with the talking... pictures or

That's what I heard from the dealer as well. Personally I've never used the PB on any of my previous cars with automatics but I think I'll try to make it more of a habit with the MB. Especially on hills. Can't be that bad on a flat surface can it?
