Top Speed

What is the fastest you have gone in your c300 sport? Luxury? C350???
I am not sure how fast I have gone I think about 130. Wondering what they really are limited at, my other car said it was limited to one number and I went 20mph over that.. Any input?

Our C300 Sport gets to 135-136 and then the car automatically down shifts the transmission and the car slows to 130 for a second. The same process happens again if you keep your foot buried. I'm not sure why the transmission down Shifts and it's hard to explain but it will hit 135/136 for a moment then drop down to 130. Hope this helps and C350 might act differently or have a higher Top Speed. I also have OEM installed 18" AMG's and contis. There was speculation that cars with the high performance rubber (18" AMG/ Conits or Michelins) didn't have a governor, well our car does. We also did it with the car hooked up to a Dyno at my friends shop, so that may have something to do with the down shifting?

For U.S. spec cars the speed is governed limited to 130mph. There is probably a give or take of a mph or two until it kicks in. By the way the w203 C350 was governed at 155mph.

+1, regardless of the wheels/tires. Any MB trained mechanic can disable the governor pretty quickly if you are so inclined. There isn't anywhere on my daily commute that would allow me to even approach 100 safely, much less 130 or faster.

Get a GPS/navi to display the speed of the car too. Sometimes they can be off at higher speeds, but I wouldn't give it much thought at just 130.

Governed at 130 because of the H-rated tires which are cheaper than V-rated. Saves MB lots of money. My '01 C320 was also governed at 130 and at that point the electronic throttle backs off (not your foot) to hold that speed, at which point the speedo indicated 133. Actual top speed of that car was 153 (corrected from KM) without the governor in a German magazine road test article.

FLAT OUT/sort of

<<130mph! wow which highways do you guys drive on?! >>

There are many highways in Washington State where it's easy to go that fast but they are heavily patrolled so the biggest risk is to your insurance rates and bank balance. My C300 has never exceeded about 90mph so far because it's never been anyplace. To view the 130mph highway for my C320, find Prosser, Washington on Google Earth, follow Hwy 221 south toward the Columbia River. Tilt the view to almost horizontal and rotate to East. At the top of the cliffs the road turns east in about a mile before another turn south to the river. The eastbound hwy has unlimited visibility with only one crossroad.

Let's roll.

It's not that kind of dyno, he also does smog inspections there and I asked him if I could load my car on there and see what it would do.

watch for aircraft or road sensors which calculate speed and report back to patrol units

You people in the US are speed limited to 130 mph. Without the speed limiter the top speed is about 156 mph

Wouldn't all of the sand strip the paint off of your car at speeds above that anyway?
