I personally did pay that extra money for the navigation, pretty much based on one single thing, and that was that the navigation was controlled by the thumb knob, and I had had prior experience with one of thos driving a BMW, and found it to be a pain in the ***. If it was touch then yea im in.Who has found it to be easy to use? Good investment/bad --to have gotten it or to have not gotten it? just wonderin....

HI. I didn't get it. If I had gotten it, I would have probably benefited more from the better sound and the ability to read DVD disks than from the navigation. I almost never go somewhere with my car that I don't know how to get to. When I need navigation, I'm in a rental car far from home, not in my own car.
However, again, for the other features I would have enjoyed it. However, for now, I saved the money, and will get it on my next car (maybe).

THe car I am waiting on has navi. Its one of those things you generally don't need, but, when you need it, you really need it. I am glad to hear that it is easy to use. The BMW model in my e46 was OK to use but not easy to use.

use Lingotronic. I never used the knob. Lingotronic does wonders if you invidualize it . Without invidualizing its sill awesome. Just say the command and it will be processed.
I opted not to get NAV because I have a Nuvi ($300) gps that is excellent. I would have liked the upgraded sound system but I just didn't feel that it was worth $3000 for me. Too bad that MB didn't split up that option.
Here's an interesting article about the value of options.

It takes 2x the efforts to get a driving direction in C.
The POI is hard to use, it always defaults to the nearest airports, strange. and I always have problems finding places with the POI in C.
Or maybe I should go RTFM?

I got the nav in my C350. Mainly for the audio system, but I'm a junky for techy toys in the car. The nav system is great though, and is leaps and bounds above anything I saw in the BMW cars. Their iDrive blows. The Command system in the MB however is very easy to use. There are some things I'd like to see improved, but overall very pleased with it. And the voice control makes it real easy to do while your driving.
The navi maker is the same as the sound system's; harmon kardon which is not exactly known for their navi. The version of navi on the c300 is old. Their newer portable system have better interface now.
A touch screen is much more easier to use than a knob but I'll take MB's over BMW's idrive anytime.
is it worth 3k? if you spread the cost over the time of ownership, its not bad at all.

This Nav in C cannot compare to my previous Acura's system which is the best - touch screen and very intuitive.

i personally think the infiniti has the best NAVI out there... other other thing about navi, is the fact alot of it is software, and that is something that tends to get better every year, regardless of hardware changes, maybe 09 will be better.....

my dealer told me MB are made to last 30 years, so they dont want peoples finger grease ruining the touch screen, so they didnt make it with one... that is one of the best lines yet

i think the navi in the C is good, it could be better, but it gets the job done. not hard to input in an address once you get used to it. i use a combination of the thumb wheel and the dash keypad to input in an address.
btw, the POI does suck. i use my phone to text to GOOGL and they text back me the address in a few seconds. if you havent heard of it before its a cool little service google provides for free (standard texting fees apply for your carrier). you just type in the store name, city and state and text to GOOGL (no E) and you will get a reply back with the address and phone number. its super cool!

I like the Nav as well. comparing to older Mercs this one is the easiest to use and located at a good view height.
I just hope they come up with a HUD NAV soon.
watching DVD's is another advantage.
the only thing that is a bit tricky is trying to load n ejecting the DVD's
cant seem to get that right (havent checked manual though)

Was it the "newer upgraded" nav in the G? I find the Infinity nav to be the best I've ever used that was built into a vehicle. I've only tried the M35x and EX35.

not the brand new one, I hade 2001 QX4 (small SUV) and the 2004 G35 coupe but before I purchased the W204 I test drove the new G37 and I don’t remember it had touch screen display I think has the new scroll know on the dash.
