I can't understand why people do this?
I know some of you guys think the orange color is ugly, but why not get some nice clear ones then?
There has to be a better solution than having a lens on the side of your car that matches the body color.... it's gotta seem strange to people who see it.

And I don't think its stupid, the idea is to make your car noticeable from the side from further away.
I could understand if you were doing something to completely remove it, but what's the point of blacking it out? It's just as noticeable and now it REALLY makes no sense when someone sees it on the car they must scratch their head.

Yes, but now you're left with a stupid extra non-light that does even less and makes even less sense to have on the car.

I took of the side markers and left it at the body shop for them to paint. I drove with no side markers for that day. I left them in the afternoon and they were ready by the evening. However, I installed them the next day due to rain and also for the paint to dry.

And I'm sure that light helps out on the highway at night. Too many times people have merged into my lane without turning their heads and this light would make it easier to notice them.

I'm plenty happy with my W203 which has very similar (I prefer them) side markers to the W204.
I don't really understand your point though? Plenty of W203 owners who think like you black out their side markers also.
I'm not sure how its stealthy? At night absolutely. But during the day you still have a bump on the side of the car even if its blacked out.
Why would I need a W204 to participate in this discussion?
Just my 2 cents, I wasn't trying to start an argument but I guess some people are too argumentative to voice an opinion in front of.
Enjoy your painted over, but still very much visible (except at night when they used to provide safety!) side markers.

You don't need to break anything to remove them. Installing them back is a little more complicated but you should be able to do it.
