'08 or '09?

Hey Everyone,

I am getting a C300 4Matic Soon: I want to order it so that I get it late August.

My question is: would it be worth it to wait for the '09 model?

Thanks!

I would say yes. Because you'd probably only have to wait a little longer at that point. But keep in mind that the '08 MY (assuming there are any left on the lots & in transit) may be getting discounted some and there maybe little to no discount on the '09 MY. Just a thought...

No doubt that there will be deals to be made on inventory cars come June/July...

I would still want to get it custom built, so deals on inventory are not much a concern for me. My dealer claims I can order the 09 now and get it in August. Is that reliable at all?

Love my 08, but have to agree - custom build an 09. More and better options are rumored to be available.

Also, come trade-in time, an '09 will be worth more.

+1

And really, the wait difference is not very much. '09 it is.

I like to

Thanks for the help guys. I called my dealer again, they told me they have already been taking orders for the 09 model. Apparently production has already started and build-to-order options will be made available for order during the summer while the car is being built.

Any particular reason your dead set on ordering a car? Right now the C is getting discounted $2500 - $3500 off M.S.R.P. if you pick up a left over once the 09's are on the lot your going to be looking at paying $2500 - $3500 off invoice or about $4000 - $6000 off M.S.R.P. I can't see losing six grand just so I could have the exact color combo or memory seats...cause memory seats are the only option I really see them adding to 09 models, well maybe new mirrors but from the looks of them you can probably just add them to the 08 models anyway. Those numbers are just guesses from what I have seen in the past the numbers could be lower or higher, but in most cases the cars left over are loaded up cars that people weren't willing to pay sticker for, so you end up with more options than you originally could afford and a lower price than what you could have ordered a lesser optioned car for.

The main reason I will rather order it is because I want to choose exactly what I get for my 40K+. I would also like to get a new model when it is still scarce, considering its resell value would also be high on the long run. I am hoping to keep this car for a while too.

i agree with your points, and i kinda want to do the same thing for the same reasons. i dont really have to factory order it though, im sure there will be ample inventory by september. and i also think that if you play the game right, you can get a good discount right away anyway....
all of 2008 mb dealers played the game, that this car was soo hot they couldnt keep it on the lot... come my09 they will be playing that game with the eclass

i think my09 will be a great time to buy a c, at least that is what im hoping...

also if you can order an 09 right now for factory order to be delivered in august, did they tell you what options you can order?

They told me that I can get the Same options as on the '08. If any new options come up, they will contact me and integrate them into the order if ever I am interested. If the PI or PII packages are updated, the features will be automatically implemented if you selected one or the other. As skeptical as I may be, they were sure of what they were saying. I mean, is it even possible to place an order for an '09 in April and they give me an '08 in August? I don't think they would do that. What do you guys think?

"your going to be looking at paying $2500 - $3500 off invoice or about $4000 - $6000 off M.S.R.P." - do you think they're really going to discount it that much, i think $3000-$4000 off MSRP max. maybe im just trying to make myself feel better cuz i got the car a couple of hundred over invoice.

i think what they did was take a deposit on a 09 for you, and to make you feel better, gave you a song and dance telling you they are placing an order with possible updates... in other words, they are sitting on your order until may or june, and counting your money, that should be in your bank account earning interest.

nah, i wouldn't worry about earning interest on $500 bucks. but ya, what they basically did was to "secure" a sale so you don't walk out to another dealership and they continue to liquidate their inventory.

I see OP's point on 08 vs 09 and about spending 40k+ on a car that YOU configured.

My advice, wait til july/august and see what's left in the inventory. You might find an exact match, who knows. You dealer should apply that deposits to the 08 of your choosing.

as for discounts, $6k (or even more) off msrp was true for the w203 when it was towards its eol. not sure about the w204 tho. the discount will heavily depend on the inventory, thus far the car has been selling well tho...
so lets see what discounts are there when its jluy.
