Disable seatbelt chime?

Can it be done. I asked MB and they said no as it is a safety feature. I always wear my seatbelt but sometimes don't put it on right away. That damn chime both driver and passenger is so damn annoying. My Audi S4, they were able to disable it which was nice..

rip out the dash and find the speaker?

I think they should be able to disable it as its not mandatory by law to have.

I agree the chime is annoying. But dude. Just keep your belt on. We just saw a horrible accident report. Dude and his friends had to be spatula'd off the highway...guess what . they didnt have the belts on

I'd just put my seatbelt on but....

I know for a fact that the audi's can turn off the chime with the Vag-Com unit. I imagiicyne there is something similar for Mercedes. Some sort of afterkmarket diagnostic tool for Mercedes should be able to disable it without taking your dash apart. I see them on ebay once in a while. They are pricey though. I'd just put my belt on man.

...if its chiming that means your in motion and you should have your seat belt on. Doesn't matter if your going 5mph you can still get hit from behind and go straight through your windshield. I never worry about my driving...I've never had an accident...its the other people on the road I have to worry about. By the way, if your thinking of disabling the seat belt chime...why not disable your air bags while your at it. I mean heck your not using them..and if by some crazy chance they go off by accident they are very costly to replace...also hurts the resale of the car if they are deployed.

On the W203 it can be turned off using the Star diagnostic tool at the dealer. The W204 can probably have it turned off also. The problem is that the dealer usually wont do it for 'legal reasons'

I was hoping they would have removed the W203's annoying start up beeping in the W204 but I guess not.
It makes no sense - you have to put your seatbelt on before starting the engine to avoid the beeping - who does that?! I could understand beeping once you start moving without a seatbelt on.

On our spec beeper doesn't start until you have driven about 200 metres

You don't get 5 or 6 successive beeps when you start the engine?
In that case I don't understand why the original poster needs to turn the seatbelt chime off - you should be using it!

+1 Couldn't have said it better. I guess Euro-spec is different. Chiming after motion is much more sensible.

However, I like the seatbelt chime and appreciate it because it lets me know when my passengers don't automatically put on their seatbelts as I do.

Now I have to get one of those! I have been trying to communicate with Vag's most of my life, with little luck!
