These are the aluminum pins from formymercedes.com .
I polished them with mothers metal polish and a dremel tool. I also cut about 1/2 inch of the bottom (pins taper towards the bottom) to fit on the shaft and used a drill to remove the threads from inside the pin. I then placed a piece of butyl hose (used for fuel lines in nitro r/c cars) inside the pin and pushed them onto the shaft. I was originally going to use the hose to prevent glue from dripping out the bottom but when I test fitted- they were so secure I just left them. I am very happy with it.

Basically did the same for mounting on mine but I used neoprene airline that I had sitting around for my fish tank. I will have to try cutting the bottom to make them sit flush.

For the front ones: did you have to cut them so that they sit flush?

I want to change mine out simply so that when the doors are locked they sit flush, so when my elbow can rest on the window opening without that thing poking me

No. If you order the aluminum pins from formymercedes.com they are the shorter, European style pins. No modifications to pins or car required.

Do they break from manual use?

After much reading about the lock pins I'm wondering if they are breaking when people are actually cycling the locks manually or when simply using the power lock system.

Mine broke when the locks were cycled manually by two 16 year old girls (my daugters friends) both of which are not tom boys.

Mine are a bit different and the fronts sit flush when locked. I am no longer using the chrome surround I out the OEM ones back on.

Unlocked

Locked

As far as the backs goes I drilled out the threads and fitted a neoprene airline from my fish tank (this was extra hose not used) and used it like a commpession fitting. The rears stick up just like the stock plastic but seem to hold much better. I was thinking of cutting a bit off the bottom but I haven't gotten up the nerve yet.

I tried twisting my fronts off too... NADA! Tried really hard in both directions, and it felt as though it was going to snap, and didnt rotate even the slightest bit...

As far as the backs, both my back left and back right got pulled off by passengers...

they both felt really bad and thought i was going to flip out... i didnt bat an eye however, because I knew this was bound to happen after reading all the posts about it..

how could there be such a major desgin flaw in something as simple as a door pin????

they better develop a stainless steel flush mount fix VERY SOON under warranty

not bad, but i like aprince2die4's carbon fiber ones from ebay way better...

they sit much more cleanly and look way more oem than the chrome in my opinion...

Just picked mine up. The caps I was surprised weren't pre-attached to the pins. Did you just use superglue or something to get it to stay on? What's strange was that for one of the pins, I could press the cap on tightly and it seemed to lock into place, but the other 3 wouldn't stay on.

Edit: Nevermind. I got it to work. Damn these look sexy. Such a little thing makes a huge difference. I'd highly recommend these to everyone.

azn, you got the carbon fiber and plastic ones from ebay, right?

Mind telling us which seller you it from?

They are carbon fiber and ABS plastic, correct?

Also, did you get the Mercedes Star carbon fiber pins or the AMG logo carbon fiber pins???

IMO I think the mercedes star ones look cleaner and more oem than the AMG

These are the ones I bought.

Basically plastic with CF wrapped. The caps are the star. It's easy to put together and looks very very nice on the car.

You don't get the back ones to work. Not unless you want to break it and take chances with some sort of glue.

Telling you guys for the rears drill out the threads from the pin then push a piece of neoprene airline inside then press onto the lock cable. Mine haven't pulled off yet and look great. Only bad thing is they don't sit flush with the doors like the fronts do, same height as OEM.
