C63 Grill

I'm thinking about painting my grill black and leaving the chrome on. I asked a couple of members on here what color they painted their grills, i've heard satin black, and glossy black. Here are my questions, does anyone know the exact color that the c63 grill has on it? Who else is considering doing this? And do you guys think that it makes the car look better, why, why not? I'm trying to convince myself to go through with it. - thanks

hey. it makes a huge difference if you paint your grill black. it looks great. but make sure you don't paint the chrome as well. there has been members on this forum that has painted the chrome and well, its hideous. i painted mine the same color as the car (obsidian black) im not sure what is the exact color of the c63 grill but its probally obsidian black or satin black.

The actual color of a C63 grille is semi gloss black.
However the grille is not a solid piece.
it is comprised of a plastic composite for the wing area with netted piece in the back.

I too agree with the other posts.
the grille for the standard C-Class would look better with satin black

Hey Derspeed, what do you mean prep it well? I'm probably going to bring it to a body shop, what should i ask them to do? I want a good finish on the grill, I don't want the first little rock on the highway to chip the paint, how many coats should they do? - thanks

A body shop should know what to do. I stripped the chrome off, scuffed the plastic to be painted with 600 grit paper, cleaned it with a duplicolor prep cloth, then I sprayed it with 3 light and 1 medium coat of hood and bumper coating. That paint is a pain to work with, but when it dries, it looks great. I'll did a write-up. I'll find it and add the link.

Edit:

Here is the link.

YES. Bought a second grill and had THAT one pained as well with a different type of paint. That one is chipping too. I am looking into powder coating the original one.
