Chirping noise at idle?

Picked up my C300 Sport 6spd about a week and a half ago. Yesterday I crossed the 1000 mile mark (had to get through that break-in period as fast as I could). But when I came to a stop at an intersection I heard a high-pitch chirping sound (exactly like a bird), probably once every second. When I stopped, took the car out of gear and had the clutch in, the sound got more frequent, maybe twice a second.

Miraculously it went away....until today. While I was sitting at a light with other cars around me, I heard the exact same noise, at the same frequency.

Has anybody experienced this? I know I'm in my first service interval, but just wanted to rack everybody's brain before taking it in and making myself look like a fool doing the bird chirp impression in the service department.

yeah i have been getting this alot. After i pressure wash my engine one day i put some belt conditioner on and it started. so i pressure washed my engine again w/ some engine degreaser to get rid of it (thought maybe it was the conditioner) and it came back today. Sounds real loud. So i sprayed some armor all on the pulley at the top of the engine Just a little and it stopped. try this and see if it works.

I agree - this sounds like the engine accessory belt to me. Probably a bit of oil on it, but the pulleys could be out of alignment, as well.

An old trick for noisy belts it to take a small piece of soap, and let the belt edges run against the soap while the engine is on - you have to be very careful not to get any parts of you or your clothing in there, of course.

Baby powder works for belts too, however, only a temp. remedy until you take it to the dealer. Definately don't want it to be something out of alignment to the point a belt could snap.

I had a noise on my wife's C350. It was more like an engine with low octane gas. Bottom line it was an oil pump problem that they replaced. However, you need to take it in. It is not a recall or update. But they did mention it was a 350 engine issue but it may be worth looking into. I hate car noises.
