audio system / sound dropping out?
Hey, just got my C300 4Matic with MM -- this is day 2. I'm ~150 miles in, and as I was pulling into my 'hood tonight, the audio just cut out. No iPod, no radio, no phone, nothing. Yes, I checked to make sure the volume was up -- there was just no sound. The COMAND controller was also acting a little wonky -- wouldn't change radio stations or even scan.
I reset COMAND to no avail, and then I ran upstairs to look around for info, but it looks like no one else has had this problem. I went down to see if maybe I had blown an amp fuse or something (I was listening to music somewhat loudly, but not deafeningly so when it went out), and hey -- it all works again. Baffling.
Computer glitch or bigger problem? Anyone know? Should I truck it back the dealer? Help is appreciated!

MBWorld Fanatic!
MB inserted a "hood rich" chip into the audio system. after 20 minutes of playing crap, it turns off till the next cycle of the key.

I haven't heard of this yet myself - scary thought. ...but this is precisely why I opted for the $4,000 to cover myself warranty-wise for 6yr/100k miles. I'm guessing replacing the radio/nav system would run at least half that if not more! Scary thought down the road...
Best of luck and by all means, let us know what it turned out to be when you bring it back to the dealership!

So I took it into the dealer and they were just as confused as I was -- they said they haven't ever had a problem with COMAND in the 08 Cs. They're looking at it, I'll let you know what they find. In the meantime, I'm going to enjoy the sick loaded ML500 loaner they gave me!

So a quick update, in case anyone else ever has this infuriating problem.
They gave me the car back after resetting COMAND -- dealer told me they found some error codes and "handled" them without being more specific. Obviously, after two days the sound started going out again, worse than before (every time I drove the car), and the sunroof started glitching.
They had the car for longer this time (and I got a loaded E as a loaner, which was fun in an old-guy kind of way), and it turns out that the HK amps were faulty and needed to be replaced. First time they've had this problem, according to the techs, who were apparently mystified when they got the car and nothing was working. Anyway, it's back now, all under warranty, and I'm hoping it stays working. If not, the dealer has agreed to swap the entire car -- I didn't buy a 80s Jaguar, after all. Electrical problems are not part of the deal. Hope this sad story helps someone else in the future!
