installing a sub

Ok so im sure everyone here knows how hard mercedes cars are to get into and take apart but we have done it before and this last week have been trying to install a sub into my car. it is nothing special but it does the trick, that is, it would if it would work. We have tried everything. we tapped into the wire we were told was the rear right speaker wire from behind the head unit but there is no signal going to the speaker. I was wondering if anyone knew what was wrong. thank you

i bought an amplified sub and just wired it to the right speaker in the trunk. plus I had to run +12v to it as well.

I didn't attempt to intercept the signals off the head unit as many new cars use digital signals between the head unit and the amps.

I ran power from the battery through a relay, and the relay is triggered by a wire that's got +12v when the ignition is on. I have no clue as I used the hunt and peck method of locating a wire.
