hello,

just bought my brand new C350 3 months ago. the car is fully loaded with every option. yesterday, while driving the car just shut off and displayed numerous error messages. it had to be towed to the dealer because it wouldnt start back up. now my service advisor is telling me it may be a bad ECU but that he "isnt sure".

has this happened to anyone, and if so how did you deal with it? i am afraid of this happening again on say a busy freeway rather than the mall intersection where it happened this time.

please advise guys, i am furious.

 

Sorry to hear. Hopefully they can easily replace the ECU and you'll be back with your ride.

 

Man I'm sorry to hear that! Mines been solid, albeit a little noisy on initial startup. I suppose a dead ECU would do what you described but you'd think they'd be able to tell that for sure right off the bat. Have you had any other problems with the car?

Hopefully they have some better answers for you soon and I hope that it all works out ok for you in the end. Did they give you a nice loaner at least?!

 

the car has been wonderful. just last week i was thinking to myself about how reliable of a car it has been. no squeaks, nothing. then all of a sudden it dies, while i am driving, in the middle of an intersection. the tow truck came and picked it up.

they gave me a C300 loaner which is cool, but i want my car back!!! what if this happens again on a freeway? has this ever happened to anyone?? please please guys, pitch in. i did a search to no avail.

 

it's never happened in the MB yet, but i have had it happen to me in a previous car. it sucked having to think about it all the time when driving. however, after it happened a couple more times, they finally replaced the ECU and it never happened again.

 

that is odd, my engine shut off when I was reversing after owning it for 2 days. I turned the key, and it started back up, so I didn't bother to take it to the dealer. Hopefully that doesnt happen again.

Would you mind elaborating on that a bit more? I've been thrilled with my '08 C300 but on the occasional hot start I get a rattling that sounds to me a bit like a crank knock but I don't wanna say that. The dealer says it's nothing to be worried about. I'm gonna search a bit more around here and then place my own post. TIA.

sorry to hear that. this has never happend to me however the other starting my engine i did have some issues. it took 2 pushes on the start button to get the car going. not sure why but it has not happend since. i could see how this would freak you out. MB should do everything possible to ensure this does not happen again. good luck. let us know how it goes.

 

This happened to my C350 2 days ago, car just died in the road..Merc mechanic came out and it actually started later. Drove it again and same happened. Had it towed to Merc dealer, they called and thinks its the engine computer box, @ around 4000USD? Is this possible, also I have read on other topics overing the same but giving different remedies etc! Anybody with some ideas as that price seems outrageous?
