Baby mod!!
I guess there is a need someday for the keyhole on the door handle, but I have never used it on my last three cars....cap it!!
(yes the cap can be removed should you need to use your key, but it might ruin the paint on it, as its a tight fit)

I don't see why you're hatting. Even though there is a key hole for it doesn't mean you can start the car with he glove box key if there is an emergency.
Okay if there was an emergency what would it be? Oh I locked something in my car and I accidently dropped my key into water? So it wouldn't work...
Haha you are wrong the key is water proof I learned that in a scary way

I got them from this guy: http://www.bumperplugs.com/
He sells plugs for the bumpers and doors...obviously these are called door plugs. They are sorta expensive, but I have wasted a lot more money on stupider things, so what the hell.
The seal is NOT waterproof, but I have had them on my last three car's and never had a problem with rust....
You can take it out if you need to in case of an emergency, but its a tight fit, so you might damage the paint on the cap; in which case you would need to repaint them....
He has them in all sorts of color's to match your car or you can ask him for a "blank" one which you can paint yourself with some dealer matched touch up pens.

If you wanted a tighter seal you could put rubber cement over the key hole to help avoid rust, but I have never had a problem with rust under them, but then again I live in a dry part of the country too.

Each...expensive yes, but he does paint them nicely with an airbrush so there are ZERO brush strokes like you would get with touch up pens.
BTW -- the bumper plugs I would stay away from. You would need to get four of them and they would end up costing around $60 and they require you to drill a 1/4" hole into your front bumper just to plug up the 1/18" holes the front plate leaves.

I wasn't sure if I wanted to spend that kind of money on a little plastic cap. The shipping to Canada is probably more than the part. They made up my mind by not having it in Fire Opal (Mars Red???).

Which black do you have the Black or the Obsidian Black Metallic??
Here is the chart:
http://www.bumperplugs.com/colormatch.html
or email him: eric@bumperplugs.com
(give him your year, make, model, color)
-- let him know it doesn't fit, he will work with you, make sure you tell him its for a 2008 MERC as the sizes are different.
