just picked up a luxury grill...

i just grabbed a luxury grill off ebay for 50 bucks to paint black for when i'm feeling a more murdered out look.

are there any specific sanding/priming techniques i should on this grill since its all chrome? (as opposed to the plastic on the sports grill)

I was thinking of doing the same thing and actually was probably bidding on the same grille you were :p

I think I read somewhere where someone painted the chrome part of the sport grille that they just sanded the chrome strips the same as they did the panel and just painted it.

when i was originally thinking about blacking out my sports grill the guys at the shop told me the paint wouldnt stick to the chrome and probably would flake off really easily...i wanna make sure that doesnt happen to this one

whyd you stop bidding at 50?!? from mb doesnt this cost like 125?

It was just an idea that flashed in my head when I first saw it, but didn't really flesh out a plan to do it and didn't want to dump that much money into something I wasn't sure I'd even do. I'll probably revisit it once I start getting board of the star on the grille.

The one I was bidding on sold for $32+20 S/H. I would have bid more but auction ran out. Great minds think alike

Yea I don't know if this would be something that I would do. I mean this month I'll be doing the black paint on the fins of the sport grill but thats probably about it for the grill. It's just the big star looks so nice on our cars. Although a blacked out luxury grill would look sick but you would have to be in the mood for it haha. Let me know if you end up doing it!

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
I bought a few of 'em for $50.00 a while ago and sold 'em fast. I was shocked so many people wanted them.

Micropower99, check out this Schaetz grille available from Jerry at Formymercedes.com. I think this grille will look great on your car.

Hey, I was thinking of getting it but thought it might be too much chrome? (Around the endges) What do you think? I'm thinking of just buying another OEM grill and painting the fins black.

Our grilles can be removed easily enough. I think a blacked out Lux Grille would look sick on your black car, trial0r! And then you can always swap it back any time.

matt black

BTW, I have ordered a stock elegance grill to make mold for the CF grill. It will take some time as the factory is currently working on a F360 for a show. So I will get it started as soon as they are done with that car.
