No, it does not use the horn. It sort of does a "chirp" sound. Three loud chirps to lock, and one loud chirp to unlock.

OK......

Honey wanted the beeping sound disabled on her 2008 C300. The dealership said there is no way to turn it off. Some people in this thread said they had it turned off but I think that person was from Canada. Is there a difference between Canada and USA C classes. Maybe here in the states they can't turn it oof?

Doesn't make sense. My SA at the dealership said they could change it in the W203 models but for some reason the option is not in the diagnostic menus for the W204.

Come on guys.....this can't be true. My Fiance is pissed. She wants that beep gone yesterday. What are the Candian dealers doing different? Do they have a different menu? There has to be a way. My next step is to call MBUSA and see what they say.

But for those that have had the beeping turned off on your W204 can you please get a detailed description of how to do it through the diagnostic menus. That way we can print it out and give it to our dealers.

Anyone here in the states have it turned off?

Wink Typical response from you

I guess the real answer you were looking for was : "Live with it" or maybe "suck it up" would have done just as well.

Glad I'm here to help!

I was having a chime issue and you responded as above....Full circle== you now have the chime issue and I do not. Have a great day!

Got a stethoscope, or a wiring diagram? Do you know where the beeper is mounted? Can you wire up a small toggle switch? Find the line (signal) and insert the switch, then turn if off while you are opening/unlocking/locking, etc., but be sure to turn it back on whenever you take in in for service, or whenever another important signal is happening.

My Wrangler had a dumb (really dumb) smallish "dome" light hanging out from under the dash alongside the steering wheel. Wire snippers and it's gone! NBD. There wasn't any switch to turn the dumb thing off with. Snip, clip, gone.

It does sound like something I would say. Just in case post a link to the thread. I don't believe you. Maybe I was drunk posting that night. I hope you sucked it up.

Not trying to start a big thing, just thought it was funny how things go. Good luck with that bell, I never was successful with it.

I generally prefer my cars without the beeps when I lock them. However, yesterday I had one incident that the beeps actually helped...

It was raining. When I parked the car, all my passengers tried to rush out to the dry area. One passenger, in a hurry, didn't close the passenger door all the way. So, when I locked the car, the car didn't beep.

It made me curious of why there was no beeps, so I walked around the car and found that one door was not closed completely.

That saved me from rain water leaking into the interior. Afterall, I think I will accept the beeps now, and I will learn to live with it...

Just my experience.

With best regards,

Yup, now I remember. Unfortunately for you this is apples to oranges. Keyless go beeps. Suck it up. The beep when you lock or unlock the cars used to be able to be turned off. Big difference.

Apparently the bell that I have described HAS NOT ALWAYS sounded as it does with the 2007 CLK63. So, while we are talking about 2 different systems (and I did know that already) they ARE similar in that they are ANNOYING.

One other similarity and difference. While the bell annoyed me and I can "suck it up" as you like to say, you will be going forward with your honey who knows you have failed in her request.

I would opt to stop this non-sense at this point, unless you feel you need to take one more shot.

So if the douche factor will settle down in this thread maybe we can get back to the original topic.
Noone knows how to tun off the beep?

And as far as me failing my honey....it can't be any worse than when tpick23 fails his eveynight in bed. Zing!

Hi. I've had my car for 4 days now and the beeping acoustic lock/unlock was the first thing I noticed. Any updates on this topic? Is this feature still something that I have to live with?

This is exactly why i prefer the beeps:

1) It lets me know if someone didn't close their door fully (which has happened a couple of times).

2) I don't have to turn around and stare at the car while I lock it to make sure it's locked (especially through a crowded parking lot on a bright sunny day when you don't have direct line-of-sight to any of your flashers).

This feature was one that i wished was on the W203... kudos to MB for finally adding it!

I work late shifts sometimes and my neighbour slashed my tires because he was pissed off with my car beeping and waking him when I get home at 3am. I can't prove it, but I know its him.

Do I really have to take this to a dealer? Surely there is an easier way.

think this was how I did it years ago:

from mb interactive menu w204
under display and operation 12button multifunction steering wheel

using steering wheel left right arrow buttons go to
use up down arrows to go to vehicle submenu
press ok to confirm
use up down arrows to find
select Acoustic Lock
toggle on off
press ok to save

MB 2011 E350 and my beater car is a Honda Accord for work.
what a pain

[/B]I was hoping I was getting a luxury car when I bought my sister's e350 sport, but the sound of a horn instead of chirps just really annoys me. Hopefully we'll be able to get the horn turned off. What's with you MB??

My UK registered, German built W204 has never beeped since I had it from new.

In general cars don't seem to do it when locked here in the UK.

Always makes me smile when I see TV programmes (US and UK ones) where cars always beep when locked.

Good luck with disabling it, I wouldn't like it either...

you would pull up your vehicle settings. Its under acoustic lock. If its enable you have to disable it. That turns off the alarm sound but still locks the car with the remove. If you enable it, it turns the horn alarm sound back on when you press lock. Again for me all I do is go to settings (vehicle) find acoustic lock and disable it
