The plans are foggy at best, but what Sirius has convinced the government so far is that you won't need any new equipment to receive the new content. That is unless you decide to take them up on one of their new ala carte packages in which case you will have to buy a whole new radio. I don't think this merger is by any means set in stone, the actual merger took place quite some time ago and the government bodies have just now decided to let it go through after both XM and Sirius agreed to pay some serious fines. Now is the stage where anyone who would want to object can and I fore see a law suit from terrestrial radio in the near future causing this merger to be delayed even further. On one hand it looks to be a great deal for the consumer getting all the best content from two providers, but when there is no competition the provider can set their own prices and not have to worry about losing your business to another competitor.
