non-ceramic tint and navi
Will a metallic, non-ceramic tint interfere with the navi, xirius?. Please advise as dealership is suggesting ceramic due to the above.
Thanks

Not with OEM installed systems. The interference is usually with handhelds or standalone units like my Garmin. I do think ceramic tint has a "cleaner" look though. My tint was perfectly clear the day it was tinted.

dealer wants your money, that's why they are BSing with ceramic / non-ceramic tint.
there is no difference between two as far as radio, cell, navi reception.

Go to a tinter that is not associated with the AD but who has a good rep. Most likely cost you half what the dealer wants. My dealer qouted me $500.00 USD I got it done for 200.00 by an independent shop.

I had ceramic tint (35%) - and did not interfere with nav (OEM or windshield mounted), garage door opener or radio. I had the GPS antenna installed against the fusebox and it was fine. Some toll highway transponders might not work, but most people don't tint the front windshield however.
The nature of the ceramic non metallic tint should not conduct or interfere with electronics.
Went to the same place the dealer gets it done and got a good discount. After tinting my last car, it's hard not to tint the new one.

Just get metallic. You won't notice any interference. Ceramic tint falls in the same category of Nitrogen fill tires.....I'm sure there's a mathematical measurable, but not enough to notice in real world.

Thanks again guys.
i think I'll go with the non-ceramic. With money saved I may use for other mods.
Thanks AZN, you are in the tinting business right?. I'll then take your authorized word for it.

1) ceramic will do better at heat rejection. 2) ceramic will withstand time better and not discolor. 3) ceramic is typically a thicker substrate and will act as a better shatter resistant material. 4) people have had issues with FM and AM signal with non-ceramic films... those antennae are NOT on the roof and are on the rear window. 5) you MAY have issues with GPS antenna as that is inside the dashboard, not on the roof.
So if it's a couple of bucks - spring for it. Probably worth it in the long haul. I unfortunately live in a 50-50 cliamate (hot/cold) so we don't have many ceramic shops. But you coming from NC, you see your share of heat - may well be worth it just for the heat rejection.
Lastly - IF ANY reason... you like using radar detectors? Yep - metallic (non-ceramic) films block that signal. That alone is reason to go ceramic.

1) ceramic will do better at heat rejection.
Maybe by a few degrees, but like I said, if it's hot, it's hot...100 degrees and 102 degrees in the car feels the same. If you're sensitive enough to be able to tell the difference in 3-4 degrees, then yeah, go for it.
2) ceramic will withstand time better and not discolor.
This totally depends on the quality of film. High quality metallic film can last 15 years.
3) ceramic is typically a thicker substrate and will act as a better shatter resistant material.
Your vehicle windows already have shatter resistant material on it....this is the wearing two condoms argument..
4) people have had issues with FM and AM signal with non-ceramic films... those antennae are NOT on the roof and are on the rear window.
Unless you live in the middle of nowhere and listen to stations that are already weak signal, I highly doubt you'll notice any difference. If you do like to listen to stations that area already weak signals prior to tinting, then ok, an argument can be made here.
5) you MAY have issues with GPS antenna as that is inside the dashboard, not on the roof.
different type of signal.

difference between ceramic vs non-ceramic is around $150. I could use that for the roof spoiler.
Thanks again for the useful info
