Automatic Turn Signal???

I read that if you tap the turn signal up or down, it will stay on for 3-4 seconds and then shut off automatically. I have tried this to no avail. Is this not on the US c350? I have an 08 if that makes a difference.

Push down lightly without locking until the first flash and release. Three flashes. Standard since at least 2001.

Yes it's true. Keep trying. You need to tap it down a little harder and let it click back up on it's own. Only apply a downard force and then release.

It blinks 3 times.

For me, it's too short. I feel like I'm not signaling the correct time, when I use it.

I agree. I'd like to set it to 5 or 6 blinks. But then I do signal BEFORE making the lane change, unlike my wife who signals WHILE changing ... drives me batty!

You signal immediately before changing the lane.
Singal means you decide to (will) change and shouldn't mean you intend to change (and ask people to let you in).
So 3 blinks is more than enough.

Washington State law for drivers requires that any lane change be preceded by at least 100 ft of signal to the effect that you intend to change lanes (page 62 of the guide). That consumes, at 60 mph, at least 1 of the 3 blinks. Any slower than that (e.g., real traffic) and you run out of blinks and hold the thing just like any ordinary car.

It's just plain rude (and illegal) to signal during or after the change.

Again, I'd feel better with 5 or 6 blinks. Changing this could easily be a user preference, I wonder if there's any place to change it or if it even can be done.

I was pulled over once for not using my signal during the entire lane change. I was told by a WI state trooper that 5 blinks was not sufficient. I think I was going to get a warning until I slipped and said "Sir I am from Houston your lucky I used it at all" Shortly after I was thinking smooth move A-hole as he handed me the $125.00 ticket....

Driving in heavy traffic almost anywhere, using the turn signals ahead of the lane change usually leads to the person behind me in the other lane to speed up and block me. 3 is enough for me.

So now you have learned that keeping your mouth shut except when answering a direct question is the best policy?

Look at it this way. If you were following you in the next lane over about twenty feet back, how much warning would you like to have that the car at your one o'clock (You #1) was about to move over?

Keeping in mind also that failure to properly signal is not only an expensive ticket but will also be moving violation points on your record and if you are a teenage driver (that's you, AsianML) you may become uninsurable.

As for me, I signal before and during a lane change so that a following unmarked patrol car (lots of them in my state) won't see my car as a target of opportunity. After all, a shiny red MB is a lot more fun to stop than, for example, a clapped out silver Honda.

That's Michigan . Actually, it's like that in NE Ohio too. On 271, signaling is just asking to be blocked. It's very frustrating.

It's the same in NY also. But I still signal before changing lanes not just the three flashes. I wish the police would pull over the total non-signallers that is a pet peeve of mine.
