gritty/noisy power steering?

gritty/noisy power steering?
Whenever I'm parking, I can't help but notice that the power steering is quite noisy in this car. It's kind of gritty feeling sometimes, too(at very low speeds) Also, the gas pedal seems to pick up vibrations from the engine, its most noticeable when I first take off. Oddly, at cruising speeds I sometimes can feel these odd vibrations in the gas pedal too.
From what I remember, the W203 has noisy steering too. Our E350 does as well. Haha, guess this is just a Mercedes thing? Or '08 Jettas steering is extremely quiet and smooth feeling at low speeds, but I guess thats because its electrically assisted.
Any comments?

Mine feels slow occasionally; like the power assisit is not quite keeping up. It's nly when i am trying to turn the wheel fairly quickly while pulling into a parking spot, etc.
