New Engines Released

So, as we all know by now the new 4 cylinder diesel made its debut in the C class, the best iteration being the C250 CDI PrimeEdition/BlueEfficiency, it is quite a remarkable engine, and the BE treatment really makes the car more efficient (up to 56mpg), while being faster than and having tons more torque than the C280/300 (only the C63 has more torque).

Another model of note is the C350 CGI (Yes, direct injection gasoline) which is also being offered in Europe as a BlueEfficiency model. It is considerably more powerful and more efficient than the C350 that we all know, getting 24% better fuel economy, 20 extra hp and 11 torque.

why don't you want them to bring over here? Are there disadvantages to these engines?

I wish they'd bring the C class Estate with the diesel engine to California.

I'd trade Wifey's C240 wagon in a heartbeat.

2016 C450 AMG, 2012 C350 4Matic Sport
This one caught my interest since I'm about to pull the trigger within the next month or 2 (need an end of March delivery as my current lease is up and the dealer is saying 3 months for delivery).

Does anyone have any evidence that the new 350 CGI is going to make an appearance in the 09 model run in Canada? The 20 hp and 11 ft/lb are nice to have (although I would have expected at least hp and tq to compete with the BMW 335) but the 24% better MPG is a real bonus.

2008 R350 & 2008 C300
The C350 BlueTec is a done deal, think the estimates were mid 2009, possibly done as a 2010 model. I would think the C250 BlueTec would be a more useful model and would make up for the cost increases (engine, diesel fuel, extra oil, urea) with added fuel mileage over its gasoline counter part. But there doesn't seem to be any plans in the works to bring that model state side.

If every one who is interested in a C250 advises their dealer principal ( by email) you never know , sense may prevail.

The new 4 cylinder diesel should come in 3 different variants. Am I right that the mid one, the 220CDI already appears in the GLK 220CDI. It is specced to the same 400 Nm and 170 HP as the current 220CDI but the peak torque at a lot larger rpm range.

I have not found any info when the smaller variants of the new engine would become available for the C-class.

Another one is the 320CDI that should come with 252 HP for the W212 during the second quarter but no news when/if this would appear on the W204. A bit strange too that the current 320CDI comes with the lower 510 Nm torque.

Would be nice to know a bit more about these other engine developments.

The 350CGI much more efficient than the BMW engine while only sacrificing 8hp, not too bad of a compromise especially since that is coming from a naturally aspirated engine that should last at least 3x longer than the BMW.

I was told that the C250 Bluetec was the model slated for the US, although the 350CDI with the retuned V6 will tear up the roads yet leave your wallet unharmed. I would want a LSD with the 350CDI...

Why not ask your dealer about the situation specifically, ask them about models being relased during '09 and if you want one, they may be able to help extend your lease for a couple months to bridge the gap.

are you kidding? In US, dealers rely on us internet folks of telling them the rumors. Your avg. dealers don't know anything until their management decides to release the info. Imagine, a customer holding off buying one of the c-class in their lot and waits for something that will come in the future based on speculation... a risk that the customer will walk away entirely... It just like a car salesman will never tell you to hold off for the new model coming down the pipe.

The stereotype and image of car salesmen are dishonest and not trust worthy are not entirely unfounded.

I think the 350CDI will be overkill especially thinking about fuel prices down the track when the Chinese economy fires up again & sucks the planet dry of fossil fuels. The 250CDI will also be lighter in the front end therefore handle better & will have sparkling performance & fuel economy.
I am amazed how well the traction control operates on wet slippery dirt roads . I don't know whether the LSD will be needed?

I know that ESP is great, the advantage of the LSD though is that it would allow you to put down more power without activating ESP.

Also, considering the 350CDI will be more efficient than nearly every other car in the US, I am sure the market will tolerate it.

I did ask - sales rep. had not heard about the direct injection engine in Europe and quite frankly my sense was that did not even to know what it was and why anyone would ask about it

As webada says, even if he did know, he probably wouldn't tell me even if he was clued in, unless he was sure the deal hinged on it.

There is also a C200 (2148cc) CDI Blue Efficiency for Europe which is a real slug but it can manage 53 US mpg. 0-100km/h in 10.1 seconds.

The C200BE is based on the old engine, the C250 has the new engine, with twice the power and nearly the same consumption.
