cold engine/battery - cig lighter voltage fluctuates

Just starting to get cold here in the northeast - I notice now that when the car/battery is cold, my valentine 1 attached to the cig lighter 12V outlet falses on laser for the first few minutes after starting the car - a sure sign that the voltage is fluctuating on the 12V receptacle. The car must be compensating to charge the cold battery. It stops after about 3 minutes of driving. Anyone else notice this?

You know, I have the same problem with my Passport. If I cycle the power on the detector, then it's fine.

I had read about this strategy to divert all power to the battery as needed on the E Class, but with its brake by wire system you can understand why. I figured the C was a "simpler" car.

The cig lighter must be the lowest device in the food chain, because I can fire up the heated seats right away and they will engage. Of course when it gets really cold, the system can deny power to that as well to save the battery.

Thanks Bokx, Now I am up to "speed" !. It is very expensive to be caught with one of these in your vehicle in Australia.
