I'm not the tech myself, but I'm sure that anyone willing to help you is going to need more info. Like what parts do you have, what is your current setup, etc. I was looking into this myself as I wanted to retro a european comand system bought on ebay. Here is the response I got from midcity rob:

The MM unit is either version coded to euro/japan/or US mode. You can use the recently discovered engineering menu to change the unit to USA mode. be careful though, the engineering menu has a change limit on certain features and the country change is one of them. you only get like 5 changes and then its locked for good.

The retrofit is not too terribly difficult. The biggest thing is that you need to make the harness for the motorized door switch (its not present on the non MM) so there will be some connectors that you need to get and you will have to build a harness. other than that i believe the harnesses are the same for the most part.

Another thread was going around recently and one member heard from his dealer that MB was going to offer a retrofit kit

I was planning to do the same thing, but it's not only change the headunit and the display. What i understand from a seller in The Netherlands is that for the W204 you also need a ventilation system for the Command, otherwise the system gets to hot in warm summer days... they claime about 6 hours to install the Command system.

Can anyone confirm if this is correct??

from what i understand, (I asked the dealer about this because it was hard to find the car i wanted with right options) it is almost impossible to add the factory MM unless it came out with it from the manufacture.
But, the Mercedes USA, just announced the aftermarket Navigation for the W204. It's not the same factory one, but it will have the big screens just like factory(not tiny garmin stuff), and they will install on there the the original MM is located (center top portion). I have no idea if you have to take out the automatic lid for MM, but it is possible with aftermarket and it should be available at the Mercedes dealer now(I heard this when I purchased my car, so it was about 10/15/08).
Ask fleet manager.
By the way I got C300 w/MM instead of C350 w/o MM, because I like my ride to be high tech.
