Removing Sirius Antenna ??

When the 6 months free trial is over, I want to remove the insanely ugly satellite antenna from my roof.

I realize it will require metal and paint work to eliminate the hole in the roof.

Does anyone know if that antenna serves any function besides Sirius? (note: I do not have Comand Navigation)

Thanks

I read the FM antenna is in the windshield (or was it rear window) and a cel would use it's own antenna. I can't give a definitive answer but I think the car would look better without it.

I don't have SIRIUS and I have the same antenna. May be the FM.

Got curious so I just walked outside and looked. No antennas on the windshield or rear glass. I also think your phone's antenna is the only one used to pick of the signal for cellular use. I know several years ago, some cars had boosted antenna set ups but I am pretty sure the system is totally dependant on your phones internal antenna.

Totallt agree on the phone. I also looked at the glass and see no antenna. If I rmember right it was in a thread about window tint affecting reception and I took the antenna in the glass at face value. I also thought the external antenna was used for GPS and was told I was wrong. Best check with the AD service dept.

it can be reached from rear doom light hole. After removing doom light antenna bottom can be seen from hole and one tox screw hold the antenna . 3 wires going to antenna. AM, FM and WB can be turned off from engineering menu, not Sat.

I agree, except I would have used more capitalization.

Not to forget that some day, you might eventually want to trade it in. What's the dealer going to ding you for your mod.

Thanks for the replies. I guess the best way to find out is disconnect it and see what quits working.

But it sounds like the am/fm are fed by the same shark fin.

Perhaps another solution can be found for the am/fm and I can eliminate the sucker yet?

Don't need no stinkin' shark fin !!

That antenna is also used for the L-Band signals from GPS satellites; a MultiMedia equipped car needs this antenna for the built-in navigation function.

This antenna may also be used for the Tele-Aid satellite aided communication service that MB offers as an option.
