my solution to the acceleration "lag"

I found, as several W204 owners were saying, that the car was a bit sluggish accelerating, whether in C or S mode. I tried the TCU reset and it was a temp fix, but for me, a city/traffic/stop-&-go driver it wasn't enough to "program" and keep the car responsive. I was trying to "let it loose" every once in a while, I remember one member suggesting that, and ended up with a nice ticket (the one you have to hire a lawyer for) ...

Anyways, to the solution:

Put the car in "S", if you're driving in the city shift to 4th gear and leave it (don't shift up or down). This should be enough to keep the car responsive enough, in every gear, up to about 50MPH. On the highway (50-65MPH limit) shift it to 5th and leave it.

This has worked for me. Let me know if you've had a similar experience after trying this.

Similar issue here in the city. Similar solution, which I find less than satisfactory. The car is such a pleasure to drive on smal roads, it's a pity the program does not do a better job in city traffic.

Buy a Sprint Booster to get rid of the drive by wire "lag".
I use one and it makes the car much more responsive.
Do a search on this site for "testomonials - most are very pleased with the results.

My solution would be to leave for work 5 minutes earlier & you would also save on fuel ,tyres & brakes.

so I'm new to the sprintbooster but from what I gather on their website, its essentially saying....

instead of flooring your pedal to get full acceleration, this booster lets you do that perhaps half way down the pedal..... and it would be just as if you floor it.

so my question is, why not just floor it?

what will solve that lag completely would be a ECU tune, PLUS a sprintbooster.

The ECU tune will make your shifting happen more smoothly and quicker. It will remove your speed limiter, and also save you roughly 10-15% on gas mileage. Plus you will get roughly 18HP and 20TQ gains.

Then the sprintbooster will pretty much eliminate all the rest of the lag you have left on your throttle on take off.

Yea, I don't justify paying 400+ for something that won't increase hp or tq.

If you want instant power just push and hold the gearshoft knob to the left and the transmission will place you into the optimum power gear for the current speed. The accelerator will now be very responsive. What's the problem?

For me, problem is that I bought an automatic & don't want to have to shift it to get power. There is definately some sort of acceleration lag that other automatics dont have.

you have certified proof of an ECU with those results??

Ha

yet to see it... if so, i would be interested... but like everybody on these boards, ECU's are all hype, and no one has any PROOF yet

I wouldn't screw with the ECU on this car. It's expensive, results are not spectacular, it's not a track car or performance beast and it voids your warantee. I'd hate to be without warantee on this car, not something you can fix at your neighbourhood shade tree mechanic.

Try the shifting meathod I described just to get a feal for what the car can do. You may enjoy it, it's just a flick of the wrist, painless and fun.
