C300Sport, exactly as you have said, in the UK it is £800 for the system and fitting.
Although there is no touch screen ability, any address can be input by a post/zip code so fairly painless.

The 5" screen is also full colour when this system is added & the mp3 streaming by bluetooth is a neat touch!

See the link below for some further details:

The only reason i would want it,
is because it gives you control over the ipod via the mainscreen & center console.

the present ipod kit is far from perfect...

still 1800 usd..., 800gbp......, i don't think so.

If the price for parts and labor will be $1850 plus tax then it's right in line if you compare it to ordering the Command option at $2,950. I know the sound system is great in the Command but the UMI gives you the added advantage of live "real time" traffic for free as an added feature in your Navi, something I wish the Command system should have come with. Maybe MB will come out with another upgrade to add "real Time" traffic to our Command systems.

If they run a special for $999 or something close, I will sign up...otherwise I will be happy with what I have now...too bad

Despite the crazy $1850 price I might still do it. To integrate the ipod, with the central controller would be a dream come true. Furthermore, to just have nav integrated with the car, even if I don't use it much, would be neat as well.

I would consider it if it had the rear view camera input like the MM comand does.

Built in navigation systems in cars have no future - especially given their price tags. I have a TomTom in my pocket now, and I'm set. Navigation functionality will increasingly move into advanced cell phones (Iphones, Blackberrys), who needs a nav in the car when they have one in their pocket? The automakers should be working on better integration between our handheld devices and the screens/controls inside the car, instead of offering duplicate standalone features in the car and charging $2000 for them.

ads on navigation devices

This is interesting, looks like the start of something new. Certain motorists across the U.S. with select Garmin portable navigation devices (PNDs) will receive ads on their navigation devices.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
I wonder if an aftermarket company will step in and produce something that will allow use of the current non-mm screen. I don't think $1,800.00 is too bad. They would probably sell a lot at $1,000.00.

If you want aftermarket- this is one of the units discussed in another post. I have been in contact with the company and they gave me a price of $200 USD + shipping including the iPhone cable. I am printing out the install manual and taking it to my audio shop to see what they think.
Unit+Camera=<$400 USD.

I agree, but up here in Ontario, they are trying to pass a law that would prohibit drivers from using their cell phones; dash mounted GPS are exempt. Due to work, I find the nav a necessity rather than a luxury and personally don't like things sticking onto the windshield (had a Garmin mounted on my previous car). In fact, I could have taken delivery earlier without the nav package.

Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see the final pricing on this accessory.

Remember that this is *not* just about Navi.

Plug in a 100 GB iPod to this thing, and you'll have everything accessible via the car's central controller on your main display. That is big time convenient and cool.

There is someone in this forum that addapted this media interface to a MM package. There is a thread about it, but i cant remember the name, you'll have to search. Here is the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Fmcf25CV0E

He also had an estimate of the cost, it was around $800 for parts if I remember correctly, so it might be the same interface we are discussing here, but i'm not sure.

And just who do you think is transmitting this realtime traffic info that this unit will receive?

I am a little confused. There doesn't seem to be a lot of info there. Is it just the back up camera?

Not sure but it's advertised in the UMI email sent out by MBUSA. Why are you asking?

Because there seems to be a lot of excitement without any information. So, in which US cities is this traffic information transmitted and by whom?

I know it's used in other countries but what about here?

That's a great question, any takers?

I found a PDF file that explains the technology and also on page 36 outlines just a few states that have different types of systems in place to obtain traffic data. http://ftp.jrc.es/EURdoc/JRC47967.TN.pdf

Real Traffic reports may become more widespread in the future but for now it's more of a novelty item. I still wish that MB would come out with an upgrade to the Command system in the event availability of Real Traffic does come to major cities where this information would be most beneficial.
