Getting ready to purchase...last minute help needed
So my CA offered to sell me the car for invoice, which is roughly $31.5k. This is without any haggling, he just presented this offer right away.
Is this all I can hope to get, or should I try harder? It has AMG wheels on it right now, but they were going to take them off to get to that $31.5k price point. Would it be unreasonable to to tell them I'll buy the car on the spot for the $31.5k if they leave the AMG wheels on?
Or I could say I'll buy the car on the spot if they throw the AMG wheels in for $500 rather than $1,000. Thoughts?
He offered me the car for invoice right away which leads me to believe he still has a cushion to work with. I REALLY want those AMG wheels, they really make the car for me, but I can't swing the extra $1,000.

Dealers are cutting amazing deals these days so I would say you are in the drivers seat...make them earn your business or walk!
What is the list on the car?

Three months ago I paid $29,000 for a 2008 that listed for $34,500. I would tell them 30K with the wheels. No dealer has cars flying off the lots these days. I know how bad you want the car, but make them earn your business.

To get the car for $30k w/ AMG wheels would be $2K below invoice. You really think they're gonna let it go that cheap?
I'd be happy for $31.5k with the AMG wheels.

I'd say ask for 31K with the AMG wheels and work from there. Worst case go 31.5 with the wheels. At this time economic wise it's much easier to get deals then before but 30 with the wheels is a little too much since its 2K below invoice. (I paid 50K here in canada for mine without the AMG wheels lol)

I find it quite amazing the dealer is willing to even take the wheels off. In my past experience dealers have been unwilling to budge on such a transaction. Not to mention just where are they going to find spare wheels at?

Do I really think that?? Yeah, it worked pretty well for me... Guess the year and maybe the manual trans helped but invoice price is by no means the rock bottom price a dealer will offer on any given deal. Either way, it sounds like it is a pretty good deal and the 1K-2K doesn't make that much of a difference in the big picture of getting the right car that keeps you happy.

You don't mention if it's an 09 or 08. German brands always have 'trunk money' from the factory to clear out leftover model year cars. If it's an 08, even if they sell at invoice they've probably (if merc is like BMW or Audi) got at least $2000 to $3000 coming from the factory. Sorry, I don't know exactly what Merc is offering for year end incentives so I'm just guessing.
If they offered invoice up front, they've got money to work with ... or maybe sales really are that dismal? You trading your mini in? Around here they're one of the few cars that has retained any kind of resale value so it might be that they're saying 'invoice' and then low-balling the mini knowing they can make up some money?

They're gonna trade them with a C300 that has the stock wheels. It'll take 10 mins. The BMW dealer pulled a showroom car with 20s out of the showroom and changed the wheels out for me just so I could test drive it.

Another reason why you should stick to your guns...it costs MB real money to keep them there and on the lot....

I'd tell them 30k tax in with the wheels, and then leave, they'll call you begging to come pick it up, then tell them 29k tax in. they need to get the car's off the lot. the have to pay finance cost's for them so the longer they sit the more they lose plus they aren't selling cars, and they make all their money on the parts anyway not cars.

i agree with one of the earlier post tell them you want the AMG wheels w/ the car for 30k than work your way up from there if necessary. i regretted not getting the amg wheels, GL with the buy.

Put the port video on a flash drive or your phone and play it for the sales manager when he tries to tell you how they can afford to let you walk away on a deal... You don't want them to lose money(they have to be around to service your new ride) but it never hurts to see how far you can take it...if you are wanting to and comfortable pushing the deal...

Man, after watching that video, I wonder if I could have done better. I have a friend who works for MB and I ended up getting 1-% off of the MSRP. I wonder if I would have been better off just waiting and trying to buy it for even cheaper...

make the offer for 31k with the AMG wheels. The worst they can say is no. You can always up your offer a little.
I kind of regret not getting the 18" wheels. I got mine Memorial Day Weekend. C300 with Auto and iPod. I was able to get OTD at just over $32,000. This was before the current financial crisis. They were clearing out the '08's and were willing to go at invoice but they weren't as desperate to deal as they are now. They had very few C-Class on the lot. If i was buying today I'd be much more aggressive in my negotiation. The lots are pretty full of inventory and it is a buyers market for entry level lux cars right now.
Make the offer at 31k with AMG. They may balk at first but they want to move that car.

relax, 10% (i assumed that - is intended to be a 0) is pretty good deal. The spread for dealer is about 7% and they are giving w204 09 for at or a little below invoice. Not much the dealers can do at this point except selling at invoice and try to make the dollar on financing points or dealer option. Unless the corporate start offering factory deals or bonuses, you won't see them move much below invoice..

car sells mans have no hart, they don't care about you, the day you decide to sell or trade the car they will eat you a live, so you have to take care of you now, but of course is your money your decision.
