question about 7 speed auto w/manual shift

I never had an auto with manual shift, I now have a C300. Just a few questions, when shifting should I take my foot off the gas or just keep it down. And when in manual, how do you back into auto? Thanks.

a quarter mile at a time
keep it down.

pull right on the gear shift lever for 2 seconds to go straight to D. Otherwise, you can repeatedly push right to eventually get to D.

Also if you are at say a cruising speed or highway speed and you want to pass somebody. Hold the shifter to the - and the car will drop down to the lowest possible gear.

Just keep your foot down, especially if you need instant power. Note that there is a safety feature that will automatically upshift if you're passing redline so you can't really hurt the engine.
