Hello from Singapore

Hi Everyone,

I've just got my C180 2 weeks ago, and found this forum where there's lots of valuable info about the car!

Over here in Singapore, car prices and taxes are linked closely to the engine capacity. So we poor folks here have to live with cars like C180 and not C300 like what you guys have...

Attached is a picture of my humble ride.

Cheers!

Congratulations. Just think how far in front you are having an efficient & light4 cyl engine . The car will handle better , be much easier on tyres & the pocket . If the US & Aust Govts had the same tax restrictions the US & Aust. car manufactures would not be in the mess they now are. They would be manufacturing smaller ,techologically advanced ,efficient & light vehicles that would be in demand by the consumer.

Congrats on the new ride...even though cars are expensive in Singapore, it keeps you off the MRT...just hate the CBD toll...
Honestly though, if the States had a system as efficient as the MRT, I would likley use it more often...still not as fun as driving though.

Enjoy your ride! Not only cars, Houses are expensive. 70 km/hr (may be 75 now) speed limit and Traffic Police (TP) it is hard to drive there. Are TPs still using BMW 3 series as a chase car still? Lived there for 10 years, miss the foods.

How much do you have to pay in taxes/fees just to own or register a car? Somebody told me it was like 30K+ USD

Tax alone is enought for buying a car in US. Also need to buy a Certificate (like 10K or 20 K) COE just to keep the car for 10 yrs. Goverment wants tax, ruling party name is PAP, nick name Pay And Pay. Pay fine, parking fee everywhere, even to park at home. 26 miles long 15 miles wide island, goverment does not want people to own car. Ride bus, MRT (subway) or taxi. Drive into Malaysia to enjoy the full potential of this car.

Thanks for the warm welcome!

Singapore has a very complex system in pricing the cars. There's import tax and COE (Certificate of entitlement) etc etc. To keep the long story short, I've paid more than USD 80k for my underpowered C180! That should explain it well, I hope.

Nope, they don't use bimmers anymore. Now they are using Subaru WRX mostly.

The speed limit here is 90km/h on expressway. Take a short drive over to Malaysia and the 'legal' limit is 110km/h, which can be 'stretched' if need to with some loose change... you get what I mean...
