Mp3s to HDD... only ripped from CDs?

Hi, I understood that you can load Mp3's from your computer to your Memory card, then through the PCMCIA slot with an adapter copy these then to the hard drive in the multimedia kit.

The dealer showed me how to Rip Mp3's from CDs to my hard drive, but could not figure out how to copy Mp3's from the PCMCIA memory card to the HDD.

Can anyone tell me how this is done? Or if it is even possible.

Thanks

I had the same question. I started burning cds to load on to my HDD, then realized how many cds I was wasting by doing this process.

Anyone know if I can use a re-writeable CD and do this? That way I can use the same disc (despite how long it will take to do this...). Also, is the quality of the rip always the same, or can I chose the bitrate myself somewhere?

Wrong.

You can use MP3 files copied on a CD to go to HDD. Also You can transfer the MP3 files on a memory card to HDD

CD MP3 ---> HDD possible
Card MP3 ---> HDD possible.

I use both methods and they work fine.

I will post the steps if needed. You need to switch to HDD first then use option COPY in the menu to send files from mem card to HDD I think. will check it out later. I am very sure I did that as I do not burn the CD's anymore.

Use Windows Media Player to RIP a CD with 320 bit rate and then burn a MP3 CD and then TRF to car HDD.

I guess I should place my question now that you already answered it.

It seemed odd for a case where you have bought the songs in MP3 or WMA format and then had to burn in audio CD format and bring back to MP3, quality would suffer from that. But now it does not seem to be needed after all.

Yes it works. I actually use to burn DVDs not CDs before using the memory card. DVD works as well. The one I tested was normal DVD +R 4.7 GB

Why would you do that. If you have bought a MP3 CD. Just put it in and play it.

The CD or DVD which has MP3 files on it will work ok with COMAND.

I use to normally burn DVD as data DVD with mp3 files on it in various folders. and never had any problems.

BTW. This morning I tested copying mp3 files from the memory card to HDD and this works as well.

Put the memory card in.

Select the Media as HDD

Select the Music Register option and in that menu you will have "copy music files" option. When you select that, You will have an option to eiter select the memory card or CD/DVD to copy from.

I'm afraid you misunderstood my scenario, but I did not explain it either. I'm referring to the case that I buy music on-line in MP3 or some other compatible format. Actually I've never seen MP3 CDs on sale (have not been looking at either).

Anyway, my point would be valid for the MP3 CD too if there was no option to download MP3 files directly to the HDD and if I wanted to store the music to the HDD. One of the earlier posts thought this was not possible while your post explained a direct MP3 download works ok. If it didn't, one would had to go from MP3 to CD audio and back.

Yup. all you need to do is burn the mp3 files on the CD or DVD as Data CD/DVD and then you can transfer them directly to your HDD of car. It takes a little bit of time though . like for example 2 GB might take upto 30 to 40 mins.

Thats why I gave up on burning business. Its better to have a memory card which you can use to save the mp3 files and then play it directly from the PCMCIA card reader in the car.

I use Compact flash (CF) type II memory card of 4GB and a PCMCIA adaptor that accepts CF type I and II memory cards. Should be easy to find from a computer shop or you can buy it online. Its much easier option. The PCMCIA card for SDHC memory card is hard to find so do not go for the PCMCIA SDHC adaptor option.

Well, I don't have the W204 at all. My W221 does not support music on the HDD. I'm using a 16 GB Compact flash card, but I do have the SD HC adapter too. Here the new NTG2.5 Comand is actually a step backwards in my opinion even if many owners feel the PCMCIA interface is old-fashioned (it is not new, but that doesn't mean it would not be good).

does anyone know how LARGE the HDD is? I thought that the size was increased to 40GB in the 09 models, but when I check on storage on ours, it shows 6GB free?

is there an advantage to putting the songs on the HDD instead of leaving it on the memory card if you use pcmi slot? (better features, better sounding...)

you can leave the slot empty so the chrome is visible and no card is sticking out (even though it doesn't stick out bery much in the first place :P)

The additional hard-drive space is used for things such as maps for the Nav etc. The space allowed for MP3 storage is only 6GB. I thought the same before but was told this later on.

Yea CD MP3 or Memory card to HDD doesn't work on US models.

However, PCMCIA adaper is 20 bux on ebay and fits flush, SD card cost 40 bux for 8-16 GB which is larger than the HDD. Loading time is very quick and switching between folders is also very quick. Organzing folders and what songs you want is also easier on the computer. So just get the two items, plug them in and forget till want more music.

This feature is supported by US models, you need to change a setting in the engineering menu from rip to copy. If you do a search you'll find a thread discussing this.

Doesn't work for all versions of Command. I tried. Delaer has also told me no updates are available for my release and he refuses to put a nrewer release in.

i tried to search for the link but i couldn't find much on how i can change the option from rip to copy. can this be done on a 2008 C350? or is it recommended to go to the dealer and getting it done? i suprising that mercedes would limit the copying from MP3 CD to HDD and have people go through the trouble of converting them to .CDA format to copy to HDD.

If you hold down "Hang Up + # + 1" then go down to option 7.7 then choose option 15 and change it to copy that should do it. I have a 2009 c350 and it works great, I can't say if it can be done for other model years...
