Blower motor replaced

Hey all,
Okay, I had my first real warentee issue. My heat/blower motor stopped working last week. First it was intermettent and I brought it in last week, but the tech said it was fine and I picked it up and it worked well for a few days. Then on Sunday it totally crapped out again. Picked it up last night and tech said the motor was "rusty" and sized!!! Okay, car is only a year old, well it works fine now...

Quit driving underwater.

By any chance, do you go through car washes with the engine running? The reason I'm asking is because I remember something about turning off the a/c when doing so. That might explain how you got water into your blower motor.

Would that mean we have to turn off the A/C on those warm days and it's raining, to prevent water getting into the blower motor ? Major flaw design if this is how water is getting in there ! My A/C is turned on all the time, I guess mine will go soon....

No, that's not what it means.

I suspect that the blowers at the end of the car wash tunnel forces water into the air intake part of the a/c blower system.

isnt there going to be moisture in the blower (fan) cuz the moisture from the A/C passes by the blower.. ? i looked at the fan (next to battery) and it looked this way.

No. The blower is before the evaporator. Pushes air into it.

LOL, No driving under water, although I never turn the A/C off. It's in auto all the time. Infact even in the middle of winter I see it is on and if you open the valve in the glove box it blows ice cold regarless of the temp in the cabin.

I had been going to car washes untill they cooked my center caps. I had them replaced but I can't trust they won't do it again so I have been washing it myself. I'll have to double check the owners manual about the turning off the A/C deal - that's a new one for me.

Had the same thing happen to my R class shortly after I got it, but in my case ice over the air intakes were to blame. There was no way of clearing it off my car without doing damage so I went ahead and drove it with the intakes covered. This problem usually happens when you don't clear snow out from around the vents or ice in my case, it melts when you start driving and when you stop it refreezes or fills up the fan compartment. This causes the motor to rust and eventually seize up. Mine died out two days after the ice storm, it didn't stop it just started blowing very slowly and the air smelled like burnt plastic...lovely smell. Seems to be some what of a common problem among all the models as there are service bulletins on how to fix it, the ML even had a redesign of their vents and include a nice stainless screen insert now.

There is un updated cowling for some of the 2008`s to keep water for going in to the blower area.
Make sure they did it if your car needs it.
There is a tips document on that.

My blower motor froze solid a couple times last winter in cold (10 dF and lower) weather. The dealer said they were working on a fix and so I took it in for "A" service this past October and the blower repair was listed as: "Refer to TIPS Document #LI83.00-P-043439 - install covering 204-830-27-13" (they also used 4 rivets to do the repair)
Today in the big snowstorm my inlet air cowl was completely blocked with snow, it appears the plastic mesh where the air enters near the passenger side wiper is too fine and snow plugs it. As a result airflow is greatly impeded and it got worse the further I drove. With defrost on full for 1.5 hour commute, I was barely able to keep the windshield clear. This is not a good design, my previous car ('04 XC70) was far superior for ventilation and defrosting.
I would love to know what the TIPS document repair was and what that part number is, but i have a feeling for those of us in cold snowy climates this is going to be an ongoing problem.

Me too. My fan froze solid last snowfall. Freed up when I parked underground, but not good.
