I own a structural contracting company with my brother, I build the structural shells of buildings: apt buildings, office buildings, shopping centers etc. It's not glamorous but it's pretty satisfying to drive around town see something you built out of the ground from scratch.

After a very long time in Software, I "retired" to become a prof. Now I teach computer science. It's actually a bit of fun, get to work with young minds who are just beginning to stretch to see what's possible.
One group I teach is the Engineering students: practice what you preach, if you preach good engineering, drive a well-engineered car!
(How long in software? Um, I started on an IBM 1620, and if you know what that is, you're probably older than I am!)
