Hey people.

I fitted these leds already. They looked nice and cool. But I notice this happened. When the car is unlocked and the lights automatically turns on, they turn on one by one. Sometimes flickering.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsjPCeSztK8

I think this is due to the heat produced by the IC (TL317C). When it gets too hot, then this will happen. Also, when the accelerator is pressed, the lights shut off or flickers too. They are dimmed when engine is on and bright when engine is off.

Do any one of you have this problem?

This must be due to the electrics of your cars. It's very strange as I did not have this problem when I tested the first bulbs. I noticed they got hot, but the heat is removed to the clip and cable.
My PIAA TERAs flicker also a bit with a series resistor. But they go on at the right time.

I do think it's striking that a E60 5-series has the same problems with LEDs as a W204. Are the electrics such a problem and not optimised??

I will not be ordering a second time. I am going to contact the supplier and ask for some info and inform him about this.
The problem is even a little current will fire up a LED.

I got osram 6000k. Don't get me wrong but they are very nice (pure white) but I sometimes regret not getting philips 6000K (i tested a set before getting the osrams) because the philips were slightly more purple tinged at certain angles.. i tried 8000k but the light output was really bad =P, I just wish the housing was white so my white LED would be white.. :P so hard to color match =P

Tell me about it. Including these LEDs I have tried maybe 5 or 6 different LEDs and bulbs.
And once you get a match, you just know that your next Xenons wont have the same color

Anyway, I'm going down a new route for the eyelids (I sold my bulbs too). I will keep on looking until I find something that won't flicker, might even make something myself

You are correct, the light housing is coated blue on the inside and the OEM bulbs too. Mercedes' way of matching to HID?

That's a damn pity... I've now almost written off the bulbs even before i've received them..

Gilles... Let us know if you get a response from the supplier regarding the flickering... Definitely not normal behavior.

The LEDs shouldn't flickr. I basically just used normal LED bulbs, but then put in the 5W100ohm resistors (plug them straight into the backside of the bulb harness (i used a bit of solder just to make sure it would stick). I guess for a pure white you would have to get a slightly beige LED (do they even make that?? i'd guess not), in order to blend with the blue to become pure white =\

I should take a photo or two, I'll take some pics after it stops raining endlessly :p

oh btw ctgilles, the reason why its flickering is because theres not enough resistance and the system thinks its a bulb out and pulses the electricity to *feel* if there is a bulb there. does that make sense? haha

All those frustrated by the flickering or uneven turning on of the LEDs. I highly recommend you search up got_thang's "DIY for any LED", if you order the same 5W100ohm resistors from a specialty electronics shop you easily DIY in 40 minutes or so. (two of the eyelids have two wires going into oneside for the bulb harness and thus you might need to use solder at those two specific points, otherwise you can just stick them in and electrical tape/shrink wrap them and they should stay put (I have had them in for almost a month with no problems..)

Phew, glad I decided not to purchase them in the GB. So I guess the other LED eyelids are actually working out better? (The ECA ones or whatever it's called) Ctgilles you said they were **** compared to the ones you got though?

I said price and kind of LED were better, yes. ECS' product is a £5 bulb with a £5 resistor...

But I don't get the flickering on these LEDs they are resistored correctly and I have not experienced anything like that when I had mine. I think they have double resistored LEDs too so might try that but they should work. They have enough load not show up as blown so they flickering is completely weird.

Only one person's experiences though... I'd like to see others installed...

Same here, I got a set and they worked 100%. After extensive testing I sold them to a friend and neither of us had problems (but he uses them in other application).

I am baffled. Could it be that the MB sensors are that sensitive? That's just crazy

They are correctly resistored: you can measure incandescent and LED resistance with a Ohm-meter.

Maybe some cars have problems. But its below 1%. I could help to add one resistor of 200 Ohm parallel to the lamp. But this can not be onto the lamp, because it would get to hot for the LED and the regulation IC.
If anyone wants to test be my guest.

Hi mates. It starts this flickering thing only after it has been hot. Like really hot. So even when you off the car after it has been hot, when you on it again it will flicker. And it seems like the power gets eaten up by the engine when the accelerator is stepped on. because the LED dims when accelerator is stepped.

I ordered 8 LEDs all from the hypercolor.de supplier directly. All of them turned out like this. I transfer 2 of them to my interior light (not bad, no problems) and two to my rear license plate light. So I have 4 extras now. For the license plate light, the LEDs are dimmed. Just a little. Can be seen when engine is turned off, the LEDs get brighter. But thats fine with me, cause just a little only. I can show video too. Same for the eyelids but more dimmed. When the engine is switched off the LEDs gets brighter.

You may need to test on a longer period or drive. 5 mins or 10 maybe way too short. When you are driving you can't see, so ask someone to check it for you while you drive or you can just step on the accelerator without driving.

Now I just plug 4 resistors to the bulb holder and use some normal LEDs. Looks really great. Cost only around S$ 25. .

Don't want to spoil it, but be careful with that as those resistors can really get hot. Ideal would be to encase them in abs or get power resistors with cooling bodies on it and putting them outside the eyelid bulb holder.
