Cheap ebay Performance Chips
What are all these $10, $20 and $30 performance chips on ebay supposed to do. It is hillarious but they are talking about massive performance and economy gains for $9.95...
What exactly are this things supposed to be...I can't quite figure it out from reading the ads...something about snake oil, smoke and mirrors....

Their usually useless pieces of crap that go between certain sensors (IAT / MAF for example) and alter the measurement. For example, to lie that the air is more dense so that the engine runs richer, which is supposed to somehow add power. In reality you probably lose power. On some older cars with early ECUs maybe it helped due to poor original design...
