They were screwing you. I checked KBB and it listed the trade value as $23,350-$27,350 (fair-excellent) with basic options. And they wonder why the automotive industry is in trouble.

just Curious...I did a test drive with fully loaded CAMRY v6 SE, Handling and dynamics was not comparable with my C300..interior quality and functionality is way below my expectation. i had enough reasons to keep my C300. On top of that they asked me to put down 5,000 dollars for negative Balance..I was pissed off..

That price isn't too far off what real market value is. Obviously they want to make money on the car, just the same as you do. That price is shooting way low though and I too would have been offended. Sad to see this car straying so far from what MB values used to be. The w203 model is holding better resale value.

My girlfriend bought an '09 A4 on Dec, 29th and although I wasn't really interested in making a move, I did drive an A5 while waiting for her to finish the paperwork(very sweet ride BTW). They offered me $25,200 for my '08 6 speed with only 6 disk CD and ipod with 3200 miles.

dealers don't use KBB so I think your assessment is a bit unfair.

and that is exactly why I only lease cars....you are always always upside down when you want to get rid of it. 2-3 years and I get a new one.

How would you compare your girl's A4 to your C300?

Well to be fair, the Toyota emblem on the front is the only redeeming quality the Camry has. It's one of the worst cars in its class. It's not a BAD car, but in a highly competitive segment, it falls way short.

If you had driven an Accord, Passat, Altima, or even a new Chevy Malibu...your opinion would have been a bit different. All much better than the Camry.

These days dealerships are hesitant in adding more inventory to their lots, and to make it worthwhile to them they need to offer very low trade in values in order to profit from them, especially as it takes much longer now to move cars off their lots.

I remember not too long ago I saw a Maserati Quattroporte for sale at a local VW dealership. The person who used to own the Maserati could no longer afford the payments and maintanence and traded it in for two new VW GTIs. I can't believe what kind of hit that person took on the trade in.
Even the person at the dealership admitted that even though they got the trade in at a fairly low price it wasn't a greatest business move as it will take a long time to get it sold and no one will be looking for a Maserati at a VW dealership, let alone step into one.

Craig's List is the best place for anyone to sell their vehicles at a decent price.

So much to say....
The A4 is larger and has a more modern feeling interior although the C's materials and feel seem much more solid. The C's handling is a bit tighter than the base quattros with a bit more roll control. The A4 has more feedback and weight in the steering but it seems to be a bit artificial compared to the real thing. There are some really weird things about the execution of the A4 that are suprising oversights by Audi considering the effort they put into this update.
To be very honest and unbiased as possible, every time I drive her car it makes me appreciate my C300 more.

I like the C300 a lot more too. I was just curious to see if you had the same opinion.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
Being a long time Audi person, I considered the B7 and the B8 A4s prior to buying my C Class. The B7 fell way short and the B8 seemed only slightly better than the B7. The A4 is really good car, but in my opinion, Audis with turbos require an owner willing to go the extra mile with maintenance and knowledge of the car. I like my C way better than either. You do have tons of options with aftermarket parts and tuning with the Audis though.

OP, I looked at the Passat CC a few days ago for kicks. I'd pick it before a Camry. That car has really moverd up compared to the B6 (Passat sedan). Anyway. You should keep the C.

The CC is kickass...and starts at $26k! That's a STEAL. I like it better than the B8 A4.

Volkswagen's really are great cars. We got a 2008 Jetta 2.0t Wolfsburg Edition a couple months after I got my C300 because we needed another car. I've been very impressed with it...the way it drives, feels, as well as its build quality are up to par or better than our C. The steering is weightier and it definitely has that German feel at higher speeds. Random, I know, but in reality...German cars really are engineered the best. Japanese DO have a solid feel, but it's different compared to a German.

I had an 08 Jetta as a rental once and loved it, considering the price. My little brother just got a new car for xmas...he almost picked the GLI but ended up going for a 350Z. Close though.

They are great. I have owned six (I think). My girlfriend now has my 2003, Passat. It uses the same chassis as the B5 A4 and many parts can be swapped. The 2006 to present Passats ride on a Golf-based chassis. I think it was a mistake. My Passat has a multi link front suspension that behaves better than any front wheel drive car I have ever experienced. With VWs, you do get a lot of car for the money. And that turbo engine is very mod-friendly. With the CC, VW took that car to a higher level.

It's not really a "Golf platform" Its a very versatile platform that underpins a lot of current Volkswagens...Rabbit, Jetta, Eos, Passat, CC, Tiguan, etc...and while it's technically the same platform, theres a lot of differences between the models.

Im not sure why VW didnt keep the Passat on the A4 platform, but I'd guess they wanted to better differentiate the Audi range. That, and the current Passat is a bit less "sport sedan" and a bit more "family sedan"...which aims it more at the Camry/Accord. The CC brings the sportiness back though.
