Very poor fuel consumption C180K SE Auto

I have just leased a new C180K SE Auto and I am a bit concerned about the fuel consumption. It has just over 800 miles on the clock and so far I have filled it up 4 times since delivery. At the last fill up it took 60 litres petrol for a distance of 284 miles. This gives an average of about 22 MPG (UK) or 13l/100km. I have looked at the qouted figures and this appears to be very high consumption. The car is used most for school runs and very short trips of about 4-5 miles round trip. I was expecting much better fuel consumption. It looks like I will only get about 300 miles on a tank.
Does anyone else think this is too high, and should I contact MB about?

Imperial gallons, eh?

Short trips means that the engine isn't warming up and that means that you are not running the engine very efficiently.

Dumb question, but why not a plug-in electric? For that short a distance, you could avoid gasoline entirely.
