Question on resetting the ECU
Hi All,
I found these instructions elsewhere on this :
"Steps to Reset the TCU.
Resetting the TCU will reset transmission to factory shift points and the car will 'relearn' your driving style.
(1.) Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
(2.) Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
(3.) Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
(4.) Wait at least two minutes for TCU to reset."
My question is, in (1.) what is meant by the "on" position. Is it the first click stop after turning your key to the right, or the second click stop?

It's the first position (click)
And it will reset your transmission, not your ECU (like the Title of the topic says)

"On" Positions is just before engine start up, so 2 clicks to the right after the key is inserted.
It's more of a throttle reset, but it's noticeable if you run your car hard after it's been done, so warm the engine up first then do the reset.

Hi Guys,
In summary:
*it seems we are unsure which click stop it is, one or two
*it seems that those who have tried it don't feel much difference, if any
*it seems that there is no way of knowing whether it has taken effect, or whether it has been done correctly.
Sounds more like faith than science!
Does anyone know where these instructions for resetting the TCU came from?
How do you reset the ECU?
Regards Matthew
