Unusual Exhaust Idea
I have done a good bit of research hoping to find an affordable, nice sounding exhaust option. I like the sound the 300 makes while running through the gears, but I just wish it made a little more of it.
I took my motorcycle out to lunch today and a guy commented on how he loved the sound. I have factory 3.5 inch OD pipes and instead of replacing them, I simple took a 2.5 inch hole saw and literally drilled most of the guts out. Honestly, it sounds better than Hard Chromes, Vance & Hines, etc.
So the idea came to me. Why not take a big 1 or 1.5 inch bit and simply drill a straight shot through the muffler?? It seems like a really hairbrained idea...but it might actually work??? The inlet and outlet match up so mechanically it could be done.
Anyhow, I know the gas flow may get totally screwed up and end up with worse flow than stock, or end up sounding pretty bad. I just thought before bolting on a set of Remus, Borla or whatever, I may give it a try.
I know this may sound half retarded, but just wanted to see what you guys thought.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
I thought of that as well as I have been working on a system. It may work, but the chambers would still get in the way. Most aftermarket exhausts are straight-through and have sound absorbing material surrounding a perforated pipe. The flow may be unusual.

Look at post #24 for a picture of the inside of the OEM resonator.

Well, after a more extensive look this morning, I think I can put this idea to rest. It looks like the design is somewhat open but curved 90 degrees from the inside/side entry around to the outside/rear exit. I guess the baffling on the outside of the curve cancels out the sound without chambering.
Oh well there is always rust that can help open things up a little or I will wait till Derspeed gets us a sweet system designed...
