Retrofitting a European COMAND on non-MM

I’m going to be retrofitting a COMAND (MM) on my non-MM car. I will buy the unit on Ebay from the UK and will install it with a local car audio shop. The guys at the shop have never done it before, but they have a lot of experience with BMW, Porsches, ect. They told me to get all the info I could that would help us do it.

So, if anyone has done this or knows any information that could help us please share

The seller has been responding all my emails instantly. He told me that the unit will work here, but that I would have to update the US maps.
I will still be missing the screen switch located on the vent and the cooling blower behind the unit; I think we can get around that in the audio shop.
I’m estimating my total costs to be around $2,500; which I think is a better value than buying the $2000 UMI; especially since I can later add a backup camera and option 518 (iPod on the main screen).

BTW, please don’t bid on this item, as is the one I will be getting:

Thanks!

Are you sure it accepts US map DVDs? It would not have weather band radio, I guess some other features, are you fine with those?

There are lower cost Euro Comand units on sale at www.eBay.de by the way.

Also you won't have the HK speakers or the amp that matches the MM head unit, so no .

You are right. But it is impossible to add the HK speakers, at least in my price range, right?
What I'm really interested in (in order of imoprtance):

1st - The cool flip up monitor and the ability to add the back up camera <-- Most important by far

2nd - Voice command for all my functions <-- very important as well

3rd - The better integraded bluetooth (I cant even get my contacts from my iPhone on my current blue tooth because it doesn't have a card slot)

4th - Navigation

5th - DVD mp3 and playback and the card slot.

6th - The HDD to store music

I'm fine with the sound system. It would be nice to have the HK, but that would really complicate things. My options really are the new UMI and retrofitting a MM. The UMI is about $2000 while the retrofitting with the camera will go from $2500 - $3000. Without voice command the UMI is a no go.
Let me know if you think I should be worried about other things, or am I missing somethig.

You may want to pop your existing command unit out and make sure the plugs look the same as a MM command unit (pics in the backup camera thread). Good luck with this project I have a feeling it will not be easy.
