Removing Door Chrome Strip
Removing Door Chrome Strip
Can we have a show of hands how many of you have done this?
Is it very difficult to remove the strip? I asked for my dealer to manufacture and deliver my car without it but the reply was that it cannot de done as it is all standard assembly line process.
I asked for it to be removed prior to delivery at the collection center but was told removing it might scrap the paint of the car. So I thought best will be for it to be done myself.
How long did it take to remove? What tools are required? Any detrimental effect on the door paint?
Thank you in advance to all replies.

I've done it. Gently run fishing line under the strips. Lable them and clean the remaining adhesive off of the car with Goo Gone or Sticker Shock. Wash and wax the area afterwards.

Used fishing line for parts of the trim...other parts I was able to just pull off. I didn't need to use any glue remover b/c the glue/double-sided tape all came off with the chrome strips.
Looks MUCH better

It's a good idea to warm up the door panel and trim (leave it in the sun or use a hairdryer).
This will make the adhesive tape easier to remove and it will make it easier to remove the chrome trim with less breakage -- the trim is very brittle and will take longer to remove if it breaks off in little pieces.

BTW love the rims man..lookin good
I also removed mine using the 3M adhesive remover and instead of fishing line, i used the Oral B dental floss so it won't scrape the paint.
Glad to find this thread for i was a little bothered that i must have been the only one that thought of removing it and looked a little odd after.
But honestly, I liked it without the chrome strips, fits my age since chromes are a little too formal.

sorry to bring up an old thread, but anyone done this to the 2012 post facelift models? the door looks the same but on the rear bumper and front bumper, the chrome strip seem to sit in an indent unlike the doors. If removed it seems there will be an ugly hole. Anyone done this to the 2012s? I have a china assembled 2012 C200 in shanghai

Easy to do as described above, but if the car is a few years old, use the hair drier first (on medium) to loosen-up the adhesive. Then use at least a 25-30lb fishing line to cut through the adhesive sawing in an outward fashion (towards you). Personally, I would use pure Naphtha to remove any residue rather than goo-gone. It's what we and other pro-detailers in this neck of the woods use, evaporates real fast and will not harm paint or plastic/rubber.
PS This technique is intended for W204 Sport Models, not Lux where the trim extends into the front and rear bumpers.

I was thinking of getting it vinyl wrapped but would much rather remove them. MBredox, did removing the rear bumper strip leave a weird indent in the bumper?
I miss being able to add only parts you want like in north america and not have to buy a whole different line like they do here =(
