Stock vs. Polarg vs. LED
There are a ton of threads about upgraded bulbs but I have not been able to piece this together. How much better is the Polarg M4 vs the stock 194 in the eyelids? Is it night and day or just a little better? How much better are the LEDs vs Polarg. Frank's look pretty nice but, once again, is it a night and day difference?
I don't mind spending $20 on the Polargs for a noticalbe improvement but to spend $200 on LEDs they would just about have to blind me to look at them. I would have to have some lumen info, or a few more pics with headlights on vs. off etc to move on those.
Any feedback welcome.

I switched to Polarg bulbs for my eyelids and it's definitely an improvement, it matched my bi-xenons very nicely. For the price I think it's a worthwhile investment.
The stock bulbs has a slightly bluish tint, but still emits a warm white light.
My next step would be to go with LEDs, but the ones out there that has a resistor to prevent error codes and flickering are extremely expensive. Also, LED bulbs are not as bright and emit a directional beam, so it will not take advantage of the reflector, so I would recommend a LED bulb with multiple diodes that shine in different directions.
For my rear license plate lights I wired my own resistor to the LED bulbs and they work just fine -- the cost of the LED bulb is less than $4 and the cost of the resistor was less than a dollar. Taking the extra 5 minutes or so to wire everything together will save you a ton of money (I believe some of these LED with built-in resistors sell for as much as $50 ea.).

I went with the Polargs and they match my Hella headlights perfectly. I think you would have to compare them to what you are matching against and of course what you are trying to accomplish. I personally don't like the blue tint of some lights I really like a pure white light.

I've had all three on mine. Was not happy at all with the stock so went Polarg Super white. Was better, but didn't quite pair perfectly with the HIDs. They were plenty white, but maybe it was just a trick of the housing, but they were more pale white than the cold white of the HIDs. Later upgraded them to LEDs. Much better. Although not a perfect shade match, you get that same cold white look and is as close as I think you can get to a good match.

Which LEDs did you get?
What HIDs are you running?

Looks like I will try the Polargs first. I have not seen them at Autozone, Pepboys, etc. Where did you guys get yours?

Okay I don't have HIDs...so I don't want my eyelid lights to be REALLY bright cuz I think it would look dumb if they are alot brighter than my headlights. But I would like them to be a little brighter so they are more visible when i only have on my parking lights and fog lights.
What do you recommend?

the only way to put this to rest is by posting a comparo-pics...
everybody thinks that what they have is the $__t, i say only by seeing all the 3 setups in a controlled setting will put this to rest.

What's the difference between 168s and 194s??? Can we use either? Do the 168s run hotter/brighter? If so, will the melt the housing, burn out quickly or otherwise cause problems?

Or FireWire and IEE1394 on a computer.
LED bulbs are great but a little blue: check your housing on your car and you will see it's coated blue with glitters

with polarg 164's on ebay the titles have xenon hyper and super white but all the bulbs and packaging look the same...is there a difference...are the ones that sell 8bulbs in group the same as the super whites you have to buy 2bulbs individually?

I bought the $30 LEDs with built in resistors from ebay (i found a thread here talking about them) but they look too blue for the stock HID.
Regardless, I don't think anything is more than slightly noticeably brighter than the stock eyelid bulbs. Maybe some other LEDs but not the polarg or the LEDs I tried. I would love to find a really bright light to put in there, maybe something to use as DRL.

Polarg are likely going to be your best bet and the cheapest. You can find them on ebay for ~$10 shipped, or buy an 8 pack for around $30 shipped and do some of your interior lights too.

would something like this fit in the eyelids... and would any errors occur?
i mean those do look nice... good displacement of light for sure... i kinda dislike how in some eyelids you can clearly see the 2 bulbs locations.

There shouldn't be a problem since its got the same specs that are floating around the boards...
I am currently working with a retrofitter to do my headlights - either with an S200 or TSX projector. We will also try to see if there's a way to get some LED strips in the MB eye brows - also Audi or even the new Saabs!
Woooot!
