Need Quick Help.

had to get my car towed because of flat tire.....

put the car in N, turned it off and gave the key to the tow truck driver.

got home and he's waiting for me at home with bad news.... "he lost the key"

i look inside the car and it says "Dont forget your key"

is the key somewhere in the car or did this *** just steal it?

You couldn't put the spare on? Was this MB Roadside who towed you?

Well, you have an extra key. Now you need a new key, and you'll have to get them both recoded to invalidate the "lost" key.

ok but why does it say "dont forget your key"?

is the key somewhere in the car or does it just say that if you turn the car off while in neutral?

I believe it says that because the door was opened before you (or the tow truck driver) removed the key completely from the ignition. I get that, because when I stop/park, I have a habit of opening the door at the same time I am shutting down the engine and removing the key, so if I open the door first and haven't yet removed the key, that message appears.

No, that message pops up every time you open the door before you remove the key. The car, well at lease the C-classes, don't detect whether the key is near the car or not.

Let's hope you called 1-800-formercedes and they sent the tow since a roadside service tech wasn't available. If that's all true, then the towing company is liable for the cost of a new key. several hundred bucks, last I heard.

A lot less trouble to change the tyre yourself. In the old days it was called self sufficiency. We may all have to learn a little of that before this world financial mess is sorted .
