You may not have to take the whole bumper off. Have you tried from under the bumper you should be able to take the lower cover off ot at least move it enough to work. I haven't looked myself and I am at work now (Shhh don't tell) so I can't check.
unfortunately it's a big design flaw with the w204.
I've gone through two lower center grills already from rocks of road debris going through the brittle plastic mesh.
I'm waiting for an aftermarket black steel mesh version to come out.

Hi guys.. I just replaced the grill in my c300 lux.. not too bad. to do.. just used a putty knife to release the latches on the bottom.. the grill pushes in, then you can be unlatch the top pins.. that's it...

if i can find some mesh i could make my own grill but i'd like it to somewhat match the honeycomb foglight grills...
Does anyone know if the unit behind the lower grill is an air intake? I think the air intake is behind the upper grille where the STAR is located but now sure. I guess the question is if the lower grille is covered up(or less holes), would it cause a problem?
If it works, how about a DIY? I tried looking at it and feeling underneath and looks like a beast to change the grille like everyone said.
