2009 Mercedes-Benz C300 vs. 2009 Honda Accord article
Hello everyone,
It's hard not to argue that the Accord has gotten slicker in recent years. It still doesn't have the solid body of a Benz, but most things you wanted in a luxury sedan that the Accord didn't used to offer can now be found in one. Is the Accord tugging at the luxury sedan market? Have you thought of getting one lately, or did you think about it when you bought your last Mercedes Benz?

NO NO NO and NO!!!
In no way, shape, or form does the accord come close to touching Mercedes in any category...Have you driven the damn thing??
It's awful in comparison - why would you choose to compare the C to something outside it's segment??

Yeah I mean come on..the Accord is way bigger..you have to compare the C with the Civic in terms of interior volume...lmao. Yes thats a true statement..look it up.
At any rate, no an Accord shouldn't be compared head to head with a C class period. But for what its worth, you can get more interior space, more options, better gas mileage, and all for thousands less than the C. But then you can say that about a lot of vehicles out there, not just the Accord, so its almost pointless to go on and on listing them.
Those in the market for a C class weren't going to be looking at cars outside of its class so the thought of an Accord most likely never crossed their minds. The C falls in line with the Audi A4 and BMW 3 Series, I wouldn't even put the Lexus IS or Acura TL in the same class.

I've driven and researched both cars. I think writing off the Honda because it's "not a Benz" is bogus. For the price you pay you get much more with the Accord. Space, size, MPG's, Reliability, IMO a nicer and more refined interior, etc. etc.
With the C you get more solidity, handling, a bit more Safety, and IMO exterior styling.
If it were me personally choosing between the two, it would be extremely close. Honda stepped it up with the new Accord, if it weren't for the failed rear end I think it would be a really all around attractive car for its segment.

There is really no reason to argue about the intangibles. For whatever reason, all of us decided to pay more for a smaller and in many cases less well appointed car.
I personally find the Accord one of the clumsiest looking cars in its class with massive overhangs and "by committee" styling. The interior is a sea of buttons and I don't particularly like the way it drives. Honda has seemed to have lost it's light but tight feel over the last few years.
Anyhow, as far as the article, there wasn't much of a write up and I think the author is clueless. They state that the 3 series has more "visual weight"...that would be the C Class if anything. He!!, it has even taken some lumps for being a little too "bold" with the big grill and star, etc. They also state that the C Class has more legroom...the accord is actually a full size car now and has tons more room.
It seems a lot of these articles that are popping up on the board lately are very poorly written and researched and don't seem to even target a question anyone would likely ever ask.

I agree. The statement "The "E" in 2009 Mercedes Benz E350 stands for "Einspritzung", "fuel injection" in German." supports this. This was the case in 1993 but has not been the case since, when MB renamed and changed their car model designation.

X3 and 2012 C coming soon
There is no question that the Honda is a great car, however; I wouldn't compare it with a W204. When my girlfriend was shopping for her car she considered one. It was okay, but it still had that tinny Honda feel. It also seemed more like an appliance for going from A to B than a driver's car. There's nothing to get emotional about. It didn't move me or her. She passed.

I remember when a German magazine compared the W204 C to the Passat and the C trailed in every category I think they are valid comparisons for the most part except that they ignore the most important thing any MB or BMW driver would tell you: The feel! How the car feels and how it makes you feel. Unfortunately feelings have no quantifiable measure.

Honda acoord is a nice car, but if that's all you can afford and consider as luxury - go for it.

You get more for your money, (as with the camry and mazda6) but the C Class is probably my favorite looking car besides Ferraris, Lambos and Astons :P
AND we get a 3 pointed star... xD

I drove an Accord for 21 years before buying the C. I know quite a bit about the Accord, and after 1 1/2 years now know quite a bit about the C.
The Accord keeps on getting bigger. So big it won't fit in the space I've allocated for a car in my garage. When I needed to replace my last Accord, I looked at comparable cars, not by "class" but by physical size. The TSX fits, the Accord didn't. Of course the C fits, as does the V30.
I choose the C. Back to Mercedes. Good choice.
More:
- I look at Hondas as 180K mile cars
- I look at Benz as 30 year cars, mileage independent
Comparison? Heh, it'll take at least 2 Accords to equal one C over the life of the C. No comparison, the C is cheaper.
As to cost of service, I expect that the Accord and C are similar. While the C has infrequent and expensive repairs, the Accord has more frequent and fairly expensive repairs. It balances. No big deal. Keep a car well-serviced and you pay money. Cheapen up and you replace the car sooner.

The real winners are the Accord owners who get one heck of a car for $25K. Great bargain and is one reason its a best seller year in and year out.

Nobody's mentioned the other reason for not buying almost any Honda: F'ing thieves.
In my neck of the woods it's THE most stolen car. All the primered, flapping loose body kit with gill slits, undercarriage lit, huge rear wing (always got a laugh at this; put a flippin' wing on the rear of a front wheel drive car. Nothing like downforce (assuming it worked) on the non drive end ), 3 cheap aftermarket wheels and one run-flat *******s out there. I see them drive through the area from time to time, scoping out what's available.
Death to thieves. And it's because I feel this way that I would never have another Honda again, even if I have to skateboard to work.
Jus' sayin'

honda accornd and c300
I have both the 08 accord for my wife and the 08 c class.
The honda comes with leather that is much nicer than the mercs, mbtex. has a ton more room, handles well and I think looks sharp. Gas mileage is fantastic. However the mercedes is so much quiter at speeds. Handles much much better. turn sharper, is faster, feels smoother. is safer, and is just plained engineered with every detail in mind. from the door sils to the trunk to the bottom of the car. plus living in Orange county I look just a little bit more succesful I guess.
But honeslty when I get my merc bill compared to the honda bill. Sometimes I think I should of just got the honda.
