This is COMPLETELY off topic!

This is completely off topic but I don't know where else to ask this since I guess this kind of remotely ties into cars.

So I noticed many of you guys are photographers with fancy DSLR cameras so I was wondering if any of you guys knows of a good forum for these? dropped my Nikon D50 and everytime I take a picture it says error. I had a friend look at it breifly with minimal knowledge of these cameras I assume and he said my shutter is broken??. So if anybody knows the answer / fixes or good forums please point me to the right direction!

thanks!

as soon as I get my camera fixed up, I can take some pictures of my car

Why not just go to an electronics store and have it fixed? Or send it in with Nikon?

If you dropped your dslr body then chances are that it can cause one or combination of these common things:

a) broken mirror
b) broken AF module
c) broken prism
d) broken mount system

You will have to have it serviced at a Nikon repair shop but it won't be cheap. You may also look into getting a new body as an alternative.

Take it to a real camera shop to be looked at don't bother with places like Best Buy the salespeople know the minimum to get by.

Go to http://www.dpreview.com and check out the Nikon threads under the Discussion Forums (there are 5 of them). I am sure someone can give you an excellent assessment and tell you how to contact or return the camera to Nikon.

best to send it to Nikon.

and if it's still under warranty, there's a slight chance you'd get it fixed for free.

@CTgilles, cuz I'm not sure if they are going to charge me to have it looked over or not but will take it to store anyways... also I want to know some background infromation about it just incase they make up some crap and try to charge me for more.

@imboom, damnit I was hoping it was something common and easy to fix..I'm pretty sure it won't be cheap too haha especially if I send it back to Nikon.

@Ron Jr, yup.. I bought it at futureshop. 100% not gonna bring it there and ask them for help.. ahhaha

@Neveda Jack, thanks I'll go check that forum out!

@peabers, thanks.. (googles where Hnery's is ) hahaha

@kaku. I'm pretty sure my warranty is gone by now... sending it back to Nikon is time consuming and will me positive it is going to be costly. It's like sending our cars back to the dealerships for checkups! haha
