NJ Radar Detector Users
I'm looking to buy a radar detector. I've read about them on the forum and still can't decide which to get. I am really leaning towards the V1.
Which do you use? Is it worth it? Does it work in NJ as well as people from other places say?

I had a V1 and I got a ticket while doing 90 on the I95 in Massachusetts with a Lidar. The laser alarm on the V1 indeed went off but it was too late.
It all depends on what kind of devices they use in your area (or where you travel). If they mostly use laser, like in Mass, the V1 (and any other radar detector) is useless.

I ran a V1 from 1992-2001(updated with a Laser model when they came out) and never got a ticket...it was amazing. I moved to Atlanta three years ago and got three tickets within about a year. Detecting lidar is simply a losing proposition. For me, it just let me know that I was going to get pulled....and jammers are not foolproof...let alone legal. I don't drive many miles any more so I gave up on speeding...
If they are running lidar in Jersey, save your money or buy a jammer.

I've used my passport 8500 for about 4yrs now and its saved me a good amt of times. Im pretty careful these days regardless, jersey insurance really makes u pay for those speedng tickets. not even worth goin fast anymore.

I have used a cheaper like 150 dollar cobra wireless one and it picks up some radar, x,ka, laser(near the airport on the turnpike) and I figured valentine one would be great bc I always hear how great it is...idk theres a 30 day money back guarantee...

I feel like you should know where cops are in NJ. Just pay attention and use common sense. 4 years of driving in tri state area and 2 speeding tickets, one when I just got the car and was dumb. Plus if you get caught cop will be easier on you if you don't have the detector. Both times I was doing 30 over but got 15-20 over ticket.
And one more thing, NJ is not state you want to speed in too much with huge potholes, crazy intersections and very high insurance rates. You don't need V1 for occasional 100mph runs on open nice roads, but save the rest for the track.

Wow that's pretty crazy, however roads in Europe are quite different. When I drove in France I didn't really want to drive much faster than the posted speed limit, here in US you have 5 lane straight highway just like autobahn, except with dumb drivers.

Guess it's all about what you are used to... I speed here all the time. But Belgian Police are not as dumb as you think... Their newest weapon:
It's a green sign that they place on the side on many places and it's big enough to hide a anonymous police car. It's like winning the lottery for them
