dealer told me there's no 1,000 mile service check-up. just the service A at 10,000.
weren't dealers at one time offering this?

They still are, but it's more a meet your new service adviser kind of thing. They do casual check, but it's nothing special. It is a good time to request latest software updates though.

yeah, you can get software (not talking about NAV software) updates for free anytime, just convenient since you're at the dealership anyways.

Well, my 2002 C240 required service every 10K miles, so I'm guessing newer vehicles require it every 13K...

Does the SA need to bring your car into the shop for a few hours or anything? Or do you just pull into the dealership, meet the SA, tell them if you're having any problems or not, and if you're not you're free to go?
Personally, I really hate bringing my car into the dealership for service... in fact, I really hate having other people touch/drive my car period! I really hope I don't have to leave my car there for a few hours... what a PITA after just driving 1K miles!

The 2008's have a 13K/ 12 month service interval but I have always felt that to be too long. I did my first at 5K and plan on doing 8K/8 months for the duration.Originally Posted by joshg1001

i'm hoping to take mine in @ 1,000 miles. as i've already experienced a couple [minor] issues..

yeah, they take it back to check it over. If you show up early with an appointment, they most likely can check over everything in a few minutes. You're leaving your car there typically cause you're waiting in line till they can get to your car.Originally Posted by chokaay

And with the synthetic, there's really no need to take it in for service before 10k miles. It doesn't hurt, but you're getting severe diminished returns.

Just as an update, I brought my 2009 E350 in for the "complimentary 1,000 mile" service (even though I didn't get any reminder on my MFD), and was told by my Service Advisor that Mercedes Benz stopped doing that. The last car model year to offer this was 2008 models. Starting 2009 models, all MB vehicles do NOT get the "complimentary 1,000 mile" service.
According to my SA, it was "a joke" anyway, since it was a hassle for the customer to bring in the car a month after they got it, the SA's never found anything wrong with the vehicles... they just downloaded the data, poked around the car, and said "Have A Nice Day!" when they were done. It was costing MB "unnecessary" money, and they didn't want to waste the money anymore, so MB axed the program.
So for year 2009 and later model owners, the first service you will get from MB is at the 10,000 mile Service A, (yes, MB changed Service A & B back to 10,000 mile intervals from 13,000 mile intervals... dunno why they can't just keep it at one interval... it's not like the engine has changed or anything
).

Probably because the time clock thinks its been about a year...check the build date on your driver door jamb and see if the car is about a year or so.
On the oil change, I would do it anyway at about 5k. Yes, the synthetic can easily go longer, but its still a new engine with new metal parts meeting each other and there will be more small metallic particles suspended in that first oil. Just don't reset the maintenance indicator and it should still go off at the normal 10k and subsequently...unless you car sat before purchase for a longer time at the dealer and the year comes much sooner than the mileage.
