When the shop cuts out the OEM resonator, they should suporrt the x-pipe at the proper height before welding it in to place. If they suspended it a bit too high, your tips will drop just a bit and vice-versa. But to answer the original question, you don't need to drop the exhaust to do the x-pipe.

they removed my pipes when they cut out the resonator and put it back on. If it's sitting too low, you can always hammer the hangers by the muffler higher/lower till you get it adjusted right. Should only be a $40-50 job at the muffler shop.
