Mirror glass removal

If anyone has removed the outside mirror glass, I'd like to know how you did it. I can see two small (3mm?) torx screws at the bottom behind the glass slightly above the lower edge but I question whether they are involved since reinstalling them would be very difficult.

Hi RLE,

Did you ever figure out how to do this? I have the same question and cannot figure it out.

I asked the Dealer service manager how I might do this and he offered to do it himself. He took the car away and was back in a few minutes. He said he found their biggest plastic wedge and inserted in at the top and pushed hard. Out it popped. I didn't witness this operation. There are no screws to remove. No charge.

Why do you want to do this? These glasses are hellishly expensive. You would be better off paying someone to do it and if they break it.......

BTW, I still have a convex left side mirror glass I'd like to sell but it's for the new style mirror, not the elephant ear version.

Thank you for the feedback. I agree with you, I am going to take it to the dealer tomorrow and let them do it.

When I was polishing the car the buffer nicked the mirror. I bought a new mirror shell and the only way I can tell to replace it is to remove the mirror glass to get to the hex screws behind it. Its' a mystery to me.

The glass can be just pulled off from the new style mirror. Adjust the mirror fully up and pull from the bottom first. I assume it is the same with the older mirror but I'm not sure.

Thank you for the feedback. I tried that technique last night and it worked perfectly. I changed out the mirror housing myself in about 15 minutes. Thanks again.

Adjust the mirror facing inside so there's a bigger gap on the outside. Take a flat head screwdriver and pop it out. That's how I did it when I had to replace the mirror. The above instructions work as well

I finally removed my outside mirror. My next question is, where do I plug the dimming wiring connection? Mine has only heating connection. Please help!

Not enough info here.

What year?
Left side?
Right side?
Where did you buy the glass?

Driver's side outside mirrors have dimming but not passenger side.
